Next Wheeling Trip

Never been a big fan of the dunes but I may end up that way. Just got a job in Ephrata so that will be in my backyard. Will know if a couple weeks what all is available out that way. I am going to miss the mountains! Guess I will have to travel for the real stuff now... I will be watching the board to see if anything is going on and I can make it. Happy Wheeling.

So Michael do you have any ideas on a weekend to do this? I like the Naches pass/Kaner/funnyrocks idea. let's set a date and go with it.

And R keep us informed of whats over there besides a bunch of sand.

If it has to be a 1 dayer, how about over Naches, up Kaner, along shoestring to the rocks. Then back home.

Michael

I asked around at work(since I've only been in WA a couple years) about Naches and my buddy said it would be a great trail. I would have to make it a day trip though cause I think my wife would leave me if I left her with the kids by herself all week(to go to work) and the entire weekend. But my oldest boy is telling me I can't go without him. He is good slave labor if we need it.

Did we decide what weekend yet?

Mark

Well let's do it this way, is there any weekend next month (september) that somebody CANNOT make it. Then we can schedule around that.

Whichever weekends don't follow a paycheck. Oct. better for me

That's fine i can''t do the 11 either. 2 B-day's

How about the 17th and 18th?

mrktuna We can alsways schedule another run in october.

Dingo

I can not make it in September at all (no weekends left for my calander).

I would like to make this happen the 1st or 2nd weekend in Oct. Let me know which would be better. I think I am going to make it a full weekend trip but there is no reason we can not have people bail out Sat evening or join up Sunday morning if you want.

But you guys should do another run in September, I just will not be able to make it.

The dunes are fun for a day or two. I used to go alot on quads when I was younger. I would prefer to do it after the bulk of the heat is gone or better yet early in the spring.

Michael

Well the weather isn't the only kind of "heat" at the dunes now days. It isn't like it used to be. There has been negative press regarding crackdowns on parties, lifted vehicles, etc.

I'm in if we do this one... I vote for end of Aug. or Sept.

How about something along the lines of the following:
Start in Enemclaw. Go over the Naches wagon trail, up the Kaner Flats trail, across the shoestring to Moon Rocks/Funny Rocks. Back down a trail (not sure which one, many to select from) across 410 and make a loop on the south side of 410. Back up another trail (again, not sure which yet) up to Manastash ridge, and back down to Ellensburg.

Thoughts?

Sorry for the late reply on this one. Been out in Minnesota (sp?) being a lazy ars with the family at her Dad's.

Mark,
Bring the family. This group is family orientated, even though not everyone comes along. My 6 year old and my wife wear more upset about missing the Naches run than I was in July.

When does Naches pass close for the winter?

Technically it doesn't close, but after a while it becomes impassible due to snow.

I am pretty sure that according to the NFS it does close. Although it has been at least a couple of years since I have talked to them about it specifically. My memory is closed November - March??

But we could always call the ranger and see.

I do have a bunch of ideas for next winter's snow runs!! I can not wait!!

Well yeah it does "close" to 4X4, but it is open to snowmobiles. So yeah I guess you're right. And yeah Michael I think you are right about the dates.

So what ideas do you have for snow runs?

Dingo

Naches Trail closes to wheeled vehicles Dec 8 till July 8 [approx dates], from the meadows west and it`s posted.I hope to do it in late sept. or oct.
I know of a couple people that are planing a night out on the trails on sat and home on sun of labor day weekend ,starting with the naches then kaner and others. No I can`t go :rattle:

So who's in on the 17-18?
