Me and my wife live in chicago and have gone out to moab 3 times in the last year..we love it!! We just got our 96 xj 2 door stock everything with 112000 miles on it and want to start working on it so we can drive it out to moab hopefully this fall. I am wondering what we would need done to it to do some trails like hells revenge I would like a3 inch lift with 31or33 inch tires whichever fits without doing any body work. any advice would be grateful.

Thank you,

Keith

Welcome Keith. We have many members in teh MWC that have been to Moab adn can assist you with your inquires. Some members have wheeled virtually stock rigs all the way to the heavily modified rigs/piles. John (lesslimited) has wheeled his wifes XJ out there and it is sporting around 3" of lift IIRC. Members will chime in so lets see what they have to say. I am hoping to roll out to Moab this fall, so I personally have no experience with it at this point.

Welcome.
Lots of info on this site. Become a red member come to a local meet and greet. You can look at different set ups get opinons and parts that are forsale.

Welcome man, Im also building my rig to drive to Moab one of these days. I am on 3" of lift with 32's and will soon have it regeared with an 8.8 axle out of an explorer in the rear with a detroit locker. Out there they have stupid amounts of traction compared to this midwest muddy terrain we have. From what I understand most of the trails out there have bypasses for the harder obstacles.

Yea most of them do. We have been on jeep tours only I can't wait to get out there and do it myself.. We took atv's out and it was amazing.. Just want to make sure we have everything we need before we hit the trails in september or october.. We just got back a couple days ago before it got too packed for easter jeep safarii

Welcome!

I have wheeled Moab with my wife's jeeps. The 98 ZJ had a budget boost, discoes, and 31s, no lockers or rock rails. It would have handled Hell's Revenge fine, but the wife doesn't like that trail so we stuck to easier scenic trails.

The 99 XJ at that time had a budget boost, discoes, 31s, rock rails, no lockers. Did Golden Spike, which is one of the most difficult trails out there. No problems, just had to use the winch to get across Golden Crack. Did make plenty of use of the rock rails and skidplates though.
