New world order.

I guess the normal first lift now is the RE 5.5 XD.
Seems that is the first mod new XJ owners are making these days.
I sense there are gonna be a lot more wrecked XJs laying around then there used to be.
Typical
Too much.
Hasta.

Seems everyone is getting on the "tall lift" bandwagon, instead of thinking about what they need and starting small. This has been a trend over many years, when I built mine 33's where "the" tire, now it seems 35's are becoming the baseline. Times they are a changing.

I like my small lift, 33's, stock motor....very hard to break things this way.

Is there a huge difference in what you can go over with 5.5 & 35's compared to say a 3-4" and 31's?

I've gotta say, I am one of the sheeple that started out with 5.5" and 35s. Since I started out sprung-under in the rear (MJ), my options for a kit were very limited. I beleive there is one AAL kit out there for ~3", Rusty's has a I beleive 4.5" springover kit, and the RE 5.5". Since I have the longbed, my breakover angle is pretty bad. Also, I have a long rear overhang and I beleive I have scraped my hitch every time I've been out, and when it was stock, I scraped a few times going out of driveways. I went with the RE 5.5" to help get my belly off the ground, and I chose 35s for that last little bit. But, I am afraid of breakage. And I don't drive like the stupid teenager I am - most of the time, at least - and I drive it like it is a lifted, large tired, Jeep. Anyway, yeah, I'm sheeple.

yes and no...

from what I have seen.. and i admit, I'm new... but a XJ with a small lift and 31s and locked... can go almost anywhere someone with 35s can go.
beng locked is the key to that though, but not always...
Driver skill and or lack of can make a difference to.

Going to 5" and 31s here relatively soon. I am already trimmed for 33s and i doubt i will go any larger then that until i can afford a tow rig and trailer and most importantly.. wheel a couple times a month.

Been at a 2" BB for 2 years.. i'm ready to go a little higher... granted I haven't wheeled it enough to really learn the XJ's full potential, but there is a method to my madness..and i will be getting a lot of practice.... once we find a couple truck loads of boulders..lol.

I think all newbies should just cut to the chase, remove their roofs with a sawzall, get a couple fullsize axles, strap on an 8" lift and 38" tires, build a full rollcage with pipe from homedepot on a harbor frieght pipe bender or go home.

31's are for barbie jeeps.

have a nice day, in big countries pants.

It would be more fun if we could convince have longer tubes and shafts made for their 30's and 35's and keep the 3.55's.

Lets get the ball rolling...

I will have a die-cut 'Got Nalgene!?!' sticker made that will be handed out to the rigs at each event based on bling points.
Fake bead locks, nerfs, the whole 9.
I am driving around all week on 2 tires.
4 wheels, but 2 tires, ya know.
Hasta.

i hate to say it, but id make a push for it. the only hard part is the welding of the cage, and the incurred expense of purchasing a welder. if someone only made a clamp that eliminated the welding process your dream could come true.

Ok they guy didn't say it was his first jeep just that hes new to XJs so he may have had a cj on 38s before and now has a family and wants an XJ. and second there is now way you can say that a lock XJ with 31 can pretty much go any where a xj on 35s can go, been there on 30s,31s,33,35, and soon the final stop( i swear this time :sure: ) and each steep gets better. Now yes I'm kinda sick of all these poser jeeps running around trying to look like they wheel when I'm scraping up money and parts so I can wheel but thats just the way it is but since i build most of my own stuff(long arms ,bumpers, rock rails)i just laugh at some of them when they cant stop looking and thinking I haven't seen that in a catalog.ok rant done

Ok.. i never said an XJ with 35s...
I am speaking from my own expierence... went on a trail ride.. and with 31s I was able to follow everyone...everywhere... and they were all running 35s. Granted they weren't the hardest lines.. but I still made it much to their surprise.
I am sure someone here is locked, with 31s and has been able to out wheel someone with 35s.. if not.. please prove me wrong.

Ok I admit I mis read that, and ya when i was on 31s I went places alot of guys never thought I could but once you get up to the harder 7 and 8 trails 31s fall short real quick and you body takes a beating.
