Just to keep it going.. A lot of this depends on the area you call home. In Los Angeles even homes in the Ghetto go for high prices... I rent an apartment (maybe about 750 square feet) in Redondo for 1050 a month, it's actually dirt cheap for the area (two blocks from the Pacific)

Absolutely not, you imply they might be living in a shady neighborhood. Even the poor can live in safe, respectable neighborhoods with decent education systems in place. I had the weakest budget when I bought my house 3 years ago, I got a great space, in a good neighborhood for super cheap. It can be done.
