Thanks - Hes named after my Fathers 76 Vega. The little dog came home unexpected. My girlfriend just showed up with him and i was afraid vega would eat him. So after not talking to her for a day - i told her i want to name the puppy. So Rampage it was. Now the dogs get along great.

Lol my woman brought home our scotty. I thought he was going to die too. They get along great though. The 18 lbs scotty just gets ran over by the 100 lbs german sheppard everyonce in a while. He protects himself though hes a nasty little bugger he bites onto the big dogs cheeks and gets dragged around.

Did the Vega have a 350? :D

Yea, my beagle mix was the same way. We got him a year old, and stubborn does not begin to describe him. Sit took a long time, and he still does not quite understand lay down most of the time.

I've owned 5 Beagles. Currently have two. They seem to be the most stubborn of breeds. Took me 6 months to train my male and 8 for my female. The female has to be on steroids or she get's lethargic and will not eat. The vet is completely puzzled and we've spent about $2300 at the vet trying to get her healed. As long as she has the steroid once a week she's fine. Just has a a thinning coat of fur. My current male has saved my cousin from a coyote attack. He actually killed the coyote and he only weighs 26lbs. They will hunt anything and would do it till they die. He now is 8 and has been diagnosed with a severe heart murmur. He puts up with so dam much crap from my daughter and other kids. If I was him I would've snapped at them by now. His mild manner with kids just amazes me. Will always own a Beagle. Give me a bit to post pics.

I agree, great dogs, especially as a family pet. You can do anything to a beagle and the only way he will bite is if you put your hand in his mouth and step on his jaw. Mom has had really good luck training hers, but she got it as a puppy and has been doing the Petsmart training classes with him. She is a physical therapist and wants to get the pup licensed as a therapy dog.

Here are my riding partners. Deuce (beagle) Tank (English mastiff)

lol, that puppy is like OMFG.

On a related tangent ... every dog we ever had would run away and not come back if given teh chance. How in the hell do you train a dog to stay close and not run away?

shock collars. dogs easily learn they can run and you can't catch them. Shock collars work well you don't have to shock them but once or twice and theyll know to stop what there doing when you make it beep.

There is another method using a 20foot leesh and a short one. This requires lots of training.

I walk the dogs on a 4' leash and reward them for not straining and for going as I tell them, I discipline them for pulling or for trying to take off. As a result the Shihtzu has not been on a leash in a year. Still working on the Beagle and he shows good traits as long as he does not catch a scent. If you have a scent hound they are very hard to train well enough to walk without the leash, he does however stay close the few times he has gotten off the leash which is good.

Also, anytime you give the dog something make him earn it by sitting or laying down/ doing the trick of the day. It has helped ours develop very good manners.
