I was reading a new 4x4 magazine the other day and noticed that the project super duty in this particular magazine which is running 46" xml michelin tires is running a visteon axle. If I am not mistaken this is the sterling 10-1/4 or whatever ford axle. It has 1-1/2 inch 35 spline factory shafts, and they just now make all the way up to 5.13 gears for them as well as have lockers. Sounds like one beefy ass rearend. What do you guys think. Should this be an option for a rear axle??===Kyle

I have a 10.25 in my 88 F350 and it's been abused severly and I can't seem to break it. For diff choices the 10.25 is - Auburn, eaton and track lock posi's , ARB, Detroit, and Lockright lockers. For the 10.5 the posi choices are the same but only the Detroit is the only available locker last I checked. The 10.5 used in the gas powered SD's is available from the factory with 4.30's. Yukon has gears up to 5.38's. If I remember right I think you can use the 10.25 stuff in a 10.5 if you change the bearings to 10.25 bearings, not sure if it works the other way around though... for some reason I think I was told you couldn't.

Take notice all the listings for the 10.5 are using 10.25 part #'s, might be a misprint but last years catalog I have says same thing.

Hmmm last thing I read before that said otherwise. The gear ratio was initially what turned me off to them but if they do go to 5.38 that sounds better.
