My new XJ

oh...and i did drive my jeep all the way to work on monday...besides being kinda loud, hot, and slow, it drove just fine on the street. steering is a little sensitive with the hydro assist, but ive gotten used to it. im pricing out a quieter exhaust system for the xj now...im tired of the flowmaster

Where do you work? A lot of nice cars there.

How do you like them tires offroad? I ran them on my old truck on the road and in the mud, but I usually don't air em down too much and they don't seem to flex all that well.

they seem to work fine, im running them at 10 psi right now (even on the road, the rare times i drive it)...beadlocks are in my future, or maybe ill recenter my humvee wheels and have double beadlocks. i'd like to air them down to about 5...i think that would be perfect for them. you just cant beat the price on them, stiff or not ha.

new exhaust (on the drivers side):

just gotta add some heat shielding, sounds great thou

Looks like your pipe may get nailed by the rear axle instead of the bumpstop, but otherwise great!

did some wheeling at woolys today with a friend, he just got a 04 rubicon:

blew a bead on cowskull (one of the tougher trails they have), had to take the wheel off and air it up back at the shop, then get a tug to the side so i wouldnt do it again. but i did drive out of it!

my buddy broke a sway bar link, and i blew the seal in my steering box...time to upgrade i guess

Just throwing it out there but, that seal could have blown initially because the trackbar is contantly fighting with your tierod and steering box. You get more than just bumpsteer when geometry isnt correct in steering. It puts an incredible amount of strain on all parts involved and components will fail.

well, i dont have a cooler on it, which didnt help, and i need a bigger resi. as far as the angles causing it, im not sure on that. my hydraulic cylinder does most of the work...but im sure it cant have helped ha. this is just a stock box tapped for assist, maybe i need to look at better assist setups, or full hydro.

Well I didnt see on the writeup where you had already installed the hydro asssist. I though you were still waiting on that. But now that you say this is would actually put MORE strain on the trackbar and steering box. This is why, your hydro assist is made to keep the wheels pointed the direction you want them no matter what forces are applied by the suspension and any obstacles. It is mounted on your tie rod correct? So, lets say before the hydro assist you hold your steering wheel with your wheels strait while the front of your rig is pushed up and down. I am positive you will get bump steer and when the suspension compresses the tires would turn passenger slightly. Since your hydro assist is actually stopping this from happening and keeps your wheels strait no matter what the force doesnt just go away, it gets transfered to the draglink, steering box, and the track bar. Does that make sense?

yea i see what you mean. im just trying to decide now, upgrade to a stronger psc hydro assist steering box, or go full hydro.

time to ditch those 16.5s! they are bad about blowing those beads.

looks good. how do you like the RK 3link? im about to order mine....

nah, weld on beadlock kit will solve that problem.

i really like the 3 link kit, never had an issue with it, arms are stupid strong, and the joints are really nice. flexes amazing.

yeah that would do it!

im looking forward to it. been on short arms for WAY to long on the xj. i really love the way the tj performs with its long arm.

ive ordered extended brake lines, once those are on ill be ordering limiting straps for the front. will probably order the bead locks this month as well.

looks like ill be picking up some hi-steer arms as well, since i already have flat top knuckles...i just have to get one machined flat and drilled/tapped, and ive got a line on another steering box. thinking ill stick with the hydro assist, i wont be going bigger than a 38" tire.

Long arms, 4.5 - 5 inches of lift, 33" tires.

Ok, well currently on order:

-Porc HD SYE
-Rustys cat back exhaust (it needs a new one, the muffler has a small hole in it and shakes quite a bit)
-RE 4.5 coils and leaves
-Ruff stuff Diff Covers

Thats all for now, still figuring a few things out, and have to see what my money situation is by the end of the week. May be able to order long arms and a few other things.

Looked at your first page and your original plans, you've come along way :D
