My new XJ

Looked at your first page and your original plans, you've come along way :D

yea...ha, never thought it would end up like this...

working on getting everything back together for a wheeling trip in october. trail rate this is giving me another stock box either monday or tuesday...i may end up getting a seal kit for it, for when i drill/tap it for assist. extended brake lines are here, now i need to flex it out and measure for limiting straps (once the steering box is back in it).

would have worked on it today but i helped a buddy install a 1" body lift on his rubi

extended front brake lines are on, no more worrying about stretching them. also have a rebuild kit for my steering box on order.

look what came in the mail....

just need to pick up some new hydraulic lines and fittings, and ill be good to go. trying to get the xj ready for a wheeling trip this weekend

got the steering box in and new hydro line, along with a beefier drop pitman arm. steering angle is less severe now, and ive got the cooler hooked up to help keep temps down.

everything worked pretty well, went to wheelin in the country over the weekend:

we also did a night run with the owners, which was awesome. i blew another bead (i really need beadlocks), and one of my stock steering lines has a small leak in it, other than that, everything performed quite well.

decided to stick with the stock gas tank instead of going fuel cell, since i still carry my spare in the back anyways...so now i need to add some protection to it.

made out like a bandit at the junkyard, stock skid and hitch, for 50 bux...

ill be cleaning and painting the hitch today...and may work on installing them.

how come you sold the tires? next month? there's still time for some good wheeling before the snow!

im pickin up the tires sat, ordering the wheels in a few weeks. the 16.5 wheels like to blow the beads, and theres not a lot of selection for tires.

damn. ive spent most of the morning and the whole of my afternoon so far reading all 36 pages. the evolution has been pretty good. im at work so some of the pics i couldnt see, but most i have been able to and its good stuff. helped understand some of the things i dont know much about. good job on all that youve done. and its been a great read minus some douchenozzle in the latter half starting shit.

at what point did you start trailering it? i never really picked up on a specific point where you did and why. i understand trailering it in general, but i was just curious what the initial catalyst was.

finished modifying the skid, and welded it to the hitch...its mounted, just need to pic up a few more bolts

i love new shoes. and that new mtrk is one of my favorite tires out there.

got new wheels as well, 17x8, 4.5" backspaced cragar soft 8's, should work great with some weld on beadlocks

tires are 40x13.5x17 mtrs :D

got a few projects going for the xj...shooting to be wheeling again in march...

40" MTRs on a front 44...? Unless I missed something.

You sir are brave.

Nah, ha, the 44 is up for sale, im gettin a 60. thought about keeping it, already had all but 1 chromolly shaft, but why spend the money to polish it if im still gonna be worrying about it. if i need to hammer down, i want to be able to...ill pay extra for the peace of mind.

Smart. I had a polished 44 fr and r. Just sold them because I want to run big tires (38-40) and I have a doubler. You'll be glad you sold it.
