My HP44 swap

Yup they are really heavy, I will make a suggestion find a 4 wheel dolly the kind the movers use, then find an Atv jack and put it underneath the dolly, postion it where it needs to be under your Jeep then jack the Atv jack up into postion, trust me it worked great, just make sure you balance it correctly.
I did mine without breaks rotors and axle shafts to make it lighter but my Atv jack is rated to 1,500 lbs it worked great for my 9" also only I didnt use the moving dolly for that portion. Good luck keep the pictures coming

Yes there was not a thing light about it. I will see what we have at the shop to use.

yah after adding up all those costs ill stick to my 30 and just add additional trussing and enjoy the fact that i have chromos/truss/ruffstuff cover/new brakes/OTK /currie, and it doesnt cost much since im always wheelin and dealin
and 2 sets of spare shafts and tons of unit bearings and brakes and stuff and keep it cheap.
and im only running 35s anyway.

but man those HP 44s are nice. real nice. bigger housing/gears/brakes sounds nice.

Jon

There are other ways to build the 44 cheaper. You dont need Reid knuckles, although very nice knuckles and I will be getting some soon. You can use stock chevy knuckes and brakes with ford hubs and rotors for the 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I will say I wish I knew how much better the 44 is than the 30 before I put a TON of money into my 30:dunce: oh well you live and learn.

Here is a great build thread with lots of part # and diagrams for a 44 in a cherokee. I pretty much followed this entire build except for changing the bolt pattern to 5x5.5.

and another good one:

Sorry for the hijack I just didnt want Jon to get to discuraged about the 44.

I think Ben H acctually has a set of Chevy flat top knuckels or he did, Yeah do it Jon I have alot of money in mine however you can do things to make it cheaper, and do the other stuff later. It is nice to have 11" rotors all the way around and lock outs, so your not spinning everthing as you drive down the road and most importantly a stronger ring, pinion and a beefy housing. Just pick it up now and pick up parts as you go along.
I just didnt want you to buy a housing with no caps. :)

no i appreciate the encouragement.
the housing did not have bearing caps so i passed. i think im going to wait until i find a built dana 44 with gears/locker already installed and then just add XJ bracketry and steering and go from there. itll be way cheaper in the long run .

thanks for the help jeepme, i could just drill out he chevy knuckles and go over OTK . i dont have hi steer right now, juse OTK on the axle side so itd be cool with me.

Thats correct Jon if you get the correct year knuckels you can run high steer arms over the knuckel. To bad you werent closer there have been two up here for sale recently, one of them was narrowed and setup pretty well.
the other is still for sale I think locked but it is truck width.

Hey Jon how much did that guy want for that housing, If you dont mind me asking I'm pretty sure I got ripped off when I bought my axles.

I just traded a Currie steering for my Hp44 housing. :wave1:

I got it all set up with the long arms. It is hanging.

Nice I did a Detroit out back and an ARB up front. I would like to have some of those spring's

They are so worth the money. They ride nice & flex sweet. :greensmok

I ve had really good luck with my KM2's. The 37's are a load range D tire so the sidewalls are pretty thick. I beat them up quite a bit on Barrett lake trail a few weeks ago and they did great not even a scrape or scar.

Yep its Jeff, and yes I love the set up. I really like the extra width on the trail it is really stable. The street ride is great too, it will do 75 down the freeway smooth and controlled. The only thing that is kind of annoying is running the 5" offset rims. I tend to hit my hubs a lot since they stick out farther with the offset. I made some little covers for them that seem to work pretty well though. All in all everything works great!! I just wish I had more time to wheel it now :)
