My "Hero" Blog

Thanks for the kind words mike. Keeping it clean has always been a priority of mine. Until the last year or so I guess. I've picked up a good bit of damage in the past season or two :(

And thanks for the input guys. Still not sure what I'm gonna do, but you are all raising some valid points.

The only reason I have a 60 is because it was free. The only reason I've been thinking of slapping it under my jeep is because it was free and I already have it lol.

And honestly, the weight isn't that big of a deal for me. The weight difference between an 8 lug 44 and a 60 isn't THAT much (5 lug 44 vs 8 lug 60 is worth noting). Same with most of the rears, although I can't speak for the 8.8. Even a 9" is a ****ing heavy pig, although most people swear they are light weight.

I think for now I'm just gonna focus on getting my jeep road worthy and wheeling worthy and just use the piss out of it this summer (like usual). I don't have nearly as much wrenching time as I anticipated, and I have camping/wheeling plans for most of my weekends.

So quick update:

It seems I misplaced a dowel this last go-round. I sheared two more upper bellhousing bolts two weekends ago. Dropped the trans in 43 minutes and put in new dowel pins, new homebrew poly motor mounts, homebrew poly trans mount, and F911 hardware. Put on a new front clip (most of it atleast). Also hacked together some led rock lights today after work.

I think I built the trans mount too tall though, cause I'm getting some wicked rear driveline vibes. Might go back to a stock style rubber rear tomorrow.

Thoughts on solid poly motor mounts with a rubber rear mount?

Headed for the hills tomorrow after work and then dropping into the rubicon from Tahoe on Saturday with Sam. Can't wait to get out and wheel!

Pics of said shenanagins:

Go Kevin
Man keep it up

Out my old rubber trans mount in and it still vibrates. Not quite as bad though. Weird. It drive smooth until I dropped the trans last and out the poly mounts in. Now it's got a wicked vibration at like 30 mph and an annoying vibe at 65. Any ideas? Heading out for the mountains tonight

Go all rubber and check pinion u joints.

Yeah I have a janky SYE. Hack n tap style. I'm gonna pull the shaft and tighten it up real quick. I bet that's the problem.

Mines just a random yoke that happened to fit over the output shaft. The bolt holding the yoke to the shaft always loosens up and starts vibrating. I can feel the play in the splines with my hand right now. Gonna tighten it up and then put my poly mount back in.

I've been wiring up some more rock lights today:

Bright as faaaawk. Can't wait to see them come night time.

Now off to swap trans mounts, re-torque the SYE and pack. Heading out for sac soon and then putting in my front driveshaft and skid plate tonight (left the hardware up there). Then off for the Rubicon in the morning. Busy busy, but it always pays off!

Just input on the axles. Your jeep did work on the con man. Always impressed. Even w someone else wheeling it it did awesome. So one) you'll stay golden wnthis setup and two) if u go big you'll do even more work haha. But digging the lights, clip, and everything.

Also forgot to tell you. Your rig looks mean in my rearview

did you guys run from tahoe to loon?
so jelly
