As usual your fab work looks excellent, but those looks like they'll be very hard coming down on(pun intended). I run these day star progressives in the rear http://www.daystarsuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=KU09017BK and they make for a much softer landing. Combined with prothanes inside the front coils, the bump stops really help to soften those hard hits, as long as you don't come down on the sliders or frame.
I am LOL right Now. I picture some very proud and happy Gay man wheeling with coils at all 4 corners using giant dildos as bumpstops at all 4 corners in some pink TJ. Actually, Im pretty sure thats the preferred bumpstop style for all TJ owners now that I think about it!
Aahahaha oh my gawd you guys sure are somethin! The adjustable dildos are on hold for now. I have other things to deal with on the heep first.
Zach. Thanks for the idea. Looking at it now, you're totally correct. These bumpstops are pretty darn hard. I love the idea of something more progressive and a bit softer. I just couldn't find something progressive in this size with a bolt to hold it to the rest of the assembly. Any ideas?
I have a nice list of things to do next week after I get home from vacation before I head off to the Rubicon (Cantina) and then back to school. I need to:
- Replace the Dana 30 pinion bearing
- Replace clutch master cylinder (or master/slave assembly)
- figure out why my brakes are locking up
- Replace Ruffstuff trackbar heims (again) (only 500 miles and 1 Rubicon trip on them and they're shot already)
- Figure out why my trans gets so freaking hot (try Lucas Oil gear oil additive maybe?)
- Probably a lot of other stuff I'm forgetting
I should mention how unhappy I am with Ruffstuff Specialties Hiem Joints. I have replaced very single one of their hiem joints in my steering/panhard setup due to them wearing out prematurely. I just replaced the panhard heims under warranty a day or two before the Rubicon (where I didnt even wheel it that hard) with you naxja folks. I drove about 500 miles and wheeled the con and BOTH 7/8x3/4 heims are shot again. So now death wobble is back. Again. Ill probably call next week and ask for my money back. Any recommendations on where to buy replacements?
the issue with bigger than the 7/8x3/4 is that the next size, at least at RS, is 1.25, which are way bigger, and require new axle side and frame side mounts to be built. And are way more exensive.
He could go back to like a RE 1660 type trackbar and see if that helps? hack up both sides and use the rod ends off it.
Something with a rebuildable joint?
Or just invest in RS stock and buy a ton of 7/8x3/4 and keep em in the jeep because you're probably not the only one.
thats weird too since the RE 1600 uses a 3/4" hiem and a bushing at one end. maybe try bushing one of the ends?
also, do you have any odd sort of binding in your suspension that would cause the trackbar to constantly be binding when wheeling?
Thanks for the idea Josh. Ill look into those. I thought daystars were usually pretty long but maybe they have different styles. I need something 1.5" in diameter and like 2" tall tops. Maybe I could cut down some longer ones?
And as far as the heims go, I'm hoping to keep my current track bar and just put different heims on it. The bar itself isn't binding to my knowledge. The old heims lasted for about a year and a few months until one of the heims went bad. I didn't know if the heim was left hand or right hand threaded so they sent me two new ones. Both of those new ones went bad almost immediately. Idk if RS changed how they make their heims, if they had a bad batch, or if I got lucky the first time and they actually suck lol.
I'm looking into simply threading in a new heim. Have you guys heard anything about QA1? Ballistic heims? Summit racing heims? FK rod ends?
Yeah I've heard a lot of things about QA1, but I can't remember if they were good or bad. Haven't looked into it much though.
I saw some FK heims at their booth at hot August nights and really liked them. They have different "tightness" ratings which was cool. I could order some their tightest heims and hope for the best but I'd like to ear what other people have to say first.
One thing I have to give props to Ruffstuff for is their customer service. I hope to find similar customer service with the company I choose next as well.
Does the larger diameter bump really matter than much? Other than being wider than the mount you made? Would it actually interfere/hit something? For a progressive bump, slightly longer is not necessarily a bad thing.
I have heard good things about QA1.
Jeremy, the width requirement is purely for aesthetics. Maybe I could find a wider one and turn it down via lathe? That's a lot of work for a freakin bumpstop though lol
Sucks to hear about heim issues from rs, I've been running the same 7/8"x3/4" Heims for years. I've managed to break about every front end component in that time and the Heims are still tight. I hope they just got a bad batch and this isn't a sign of future products.

Eh I wish I could do that Jeremy. I'd basically have to rebuild the whole thing for that though haha. Thanks for the ideas though.
I replaced my clutch master cylinder today. Everything I have read says it is not serviceable at all and must be replaced as a whole prebled unit (master, slave, lines). I ignored all that stuff and replaced the master today with no problems. It's definitely better right off the bat, just gotta see how it acts once I warm it up.
Aside from that I have some other transmission problems. My clutch is chattering like crazy when I sklip the clutch in any gear but first. I'm thinking I overheated the clutch on the Rubicon during Sierrafest and caused it to crack in a few places. My throw out bearing also sounds like it hates me. So after cantina ill pull the trans and do a new clutch and throwout. What else should I replace while I'm in there? And what clutch do you guys recommend? I was just gonna grab the cheapest through rock auto since this beast has been draining my pockets recently.
