My "Hero" Blog

I'm worried about the 3/4" hole in the knuckle being too big and not leaving enough meat around the bolt. It just a Dana 30 so the knuckle has a lot less meat compared to your 44.

I guess that's my main concern right now

They have 7/8" hems with 3/4" holes dude, thats what you should use.
that way you can use the same 3/4" bolts you are using now.

wait what size hiems do you have now? are you running 5/8" bolts ?

I'm running 5/8" bolts right now. I'm leaning towards just getting the replacements and not upgrading. I have enough to do on the jeep as it is. We will see lol

plus youll need to buy a 20$ 3/4" bit that youll kill while drilling them out. I always try to have 304 3/4" bits on hand just in case i get crazy at 2am in the garage...

That is true, the stock knuckles do not have a lot of meat. I recommend just getting replacements.

Going with the smaller/replacement 5/8" joints. Ordering tomorrow morning unless somebody can convince me to do otherwise

im going to be running 7/8"x3/4" hiems, but thats just me.

LOL!
if i break this 44 R&P in less than a month im getting rid of the 36s and going back to 35s...

I've beaten my 44 much harder than my 30, and I killed the r&p in the 30 the first trip out with 4.88's. The 44 is no 60, but it is stronger than a 30.

If/when I build something else ill be using 7/8x3/4" heims. Ordering the 5/8" heims for now. They're free anyway and I don't have to do any extra work which is a plus.

Thanks for the input guys!

Right after finals I went up to open the family cabin at lake alpine and wheeled slick rock with my girlfriends uncle. Went from the alpine side to the spicer side. We took it easy and enjoyed our time on the trail. The steps have changed a little bit and the trail is super easy. Rocks are stacked EVERYWHERE. Next time I run it ill probably un-stack everything lol.

Here's some pics from the day on the trail:

My favorite place in the area:

Here's a shot of the camp sites near the bottom of the stair steps. I say this is where we should camp for sierrafest. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

There was barely anyone on the trail (especially for Memorial Day weekend). But we had a blast and his 4dr JK did great.

The next day my dad and I ran the trail again. Made it from the cabin at alpine to the stair steps in 45 minutes and were on our way to go fishing at spicer within an hour.

Overall it was a killer weekend and was an awesome way to spend the first weekend after finals!

that is awesome kevin! my cousing was there that saturday in his XJ on 32s. did you see him?

If it was a grey xj or a red xj is say I saw him. Can't remember for sure though

it was blue.

it was blue.

Coulda been him. I can't remember what the rigs looked like out there. Let me know when you get that 44 done and lets do a boards crossing and slick rock trip.

Just been doing some random maintenance on the jeep. Trying to get it in tip top condition before I start wheeling more

sounds good, I would love to boards and SR asap once its done

Did a little bit of fabbing today. This is an adjustable rear bump stop to keep my tires from catching on my fenders. A progressive energy suspension bumpstop will be place on the end of the inner tube. The bumpstop will contact the spring plate.

Ill add tabs/bolts at the ends of the oval so I can clamp the outer tube onto the inner tube once it is adjusted.

It's coming together nicely I'd say. I'm stoked!
