My First XJ Build

Pretty nice Willy's came into work yesterday. I always see this guy coming in and out of the store with a couple different older jeeps. Not too crazy about the rims but still really cool

I believe thats a jeepster , made from 48-50? then they started building them again in teh late 60s after kaiser bought it out it in the late 50s, as the jeepster commando in 66-73. im not sure how to tell if it came from 48-50 or 66-73 though...

Re: Re: My First XJ Build

i know that guy that thing has a 12 valve cummins in it

I think you may be thinking of someone else?

Didn't sound like a Cummins. I think we are in different areas too.

Jeepsters and commandos look very similar so idk haha. Whatever it was, it was sweet lol

so i'm wanting to get a new muffler for my jeep. i had a flowrasper supper 44. didnt really like the sound. i want something that had a nice deep, beefy sound. i dont mind noise, i actually like it haha. any suggestions? links to the mufflers would be nice too

For tone. The super 44 is not a good choice. I have the super 40. It has sounded awesome on every jeep I have used it on. I have used a few other name brands but have always come back to super 40s.

I have two old ones off a cj7 I used to have just laying around too. If you we're closer I would kick one your way.

Is your cat the big round one? or is it flatter?

If it is the latter of the two, cut off the muffler and run the exhaust (straight piped after the cat) out the back through the factory exhaust size or larger. Thats what I run and its amazing. Deep/burly/orgasmic sound.

its the flatter one. i have the muffler cut off now just dumped after the cat.

Re: Re: My First XJ Build

14" 4x9 oval magnaflow with a turndown.
Just because it doesn't drone like with your failmaster doesn't mean its stock.

better than what a failmaster sounds like

Easy killer. Wasn't meant to be an insult. I have no muffler right now and I'm kinda over it.

Its a Jeepster. that body style was made from 1966 to 1971 Then in 72 and 73 they where called Commandos. Thats how we tell the diffrence on Jeepster/Commando club of america. 72 and 73s had either a straight 6 or the 304 V8s This is also why they had new front sheet metal, room for the straight 6s. Because Buick bought back all there tooling and so on for the V-6s So people will run Grand National motors in there Jeepsters. Kaiser Jeep was sold to AMC in 1970 Which is the year Jeepster I have that sports the ugly AMC badge on the tail gate. I peeled it off, its the only way to know its a AMC product. The VIN tag for 1970 still reads Kaiser Jeep.

Hope this helped sort out the confustion, and sorry for the tread hi-jack

And here is mine missing the front sheet metal, waiting to fab up motor mounts for the 383 stroker motor.

No worries at all man. Always cook learning new stuff. Yours looks good!!

It has floor board rust, but 95% of them do. Mine came from the Nevada desert. And still had rust floors up front. Stupid rubber floor mats.

My Jeepster actually has my Cherokees wheels and tires on it. Trying to figure out tire sizes.

What ever size is on the jeepster right now looks perfect!

I wasn't insulted. Just stating the fact that failmasters, well .. Fail.
I've always liked magnaflows.
