My First XJ Build

got them in. only problem now is i need to adjust my caster cuz they now rub on the coil. so ill do that tomorrow at work

hmmm that would be mighty unfortunate. i guess well see how they hold up!!

so how does everyone adjust there caster? I have adjustable lower arms and I have an idea how i want to do it but I would like to get others opinions

With stock or fixed LCA's using the shims behind the control arm is how to do it. Since you have adjustable LCA's use those to adjust.

well yeah I know that, but the axle has to come a considerable amount forward so I was wondering how everyone going about doing that

Look what I found in your driveway today.

so i finally got around to moving my axle forward so that the bumpstops wouldnt knock up against coil....now there is a new noise.

i didnt get it as far forward as i had hoped because i only have adjustable lowers and i realized i can only adjust those so much before i get the pinion angle all messed up.

so on the test drive i noticed some sort of knocking noise from about 15mph and up. thought it might be the drive ling from moving the axle too far forward and messing up the pinion angle. but after further inspection it doesnt seem to be bad. only thing i found was that the arm was hitting up against the coil bucket/lower shock mount, possibly making the noise? idk here is a pic of what i'm talking about. any input anyone? kind of urgent as i will be driving 3 hours to hollister hills on saturday for the toy drive and would like to figure it out before then.

Cut out that piece of the shock mount. Lots of us do it. Mine was already cut when I got the axle.. Not sure if you noticed. Is that at ride height or droop?

yeah i did it on the pass side cuz i couldnt get the arm high enough. just didnt want to take apart the other side again. thats at ride height.
chris suggested to remove the drive line and see if the noise is still there. think ill try that tomorrow. either way ill probably be cutting that side too haha

i cut mine off with the arms on the vehicle, just be careful, Everyone cuts that stuff off, dont go too far though, i just recently replaced front shock mounts for a buddy that cut his too far and one day after wheeling we noticed it completely ripped off. so we just cut it all off and welded up double shear mounts and threw some better shocks on.

yeah i just took a grinder to it today. seemed to do the trick.
and i went ahead and took off the front drivline today and...POOF noise and vibration gone. so i thought it might have been the u joint, and with it only being like 10 bucks, why not replace it? so i did, put it back in, and its still there. sooo i figured it was the pinion angle, dropped the lower arms and moved them in about 1/4 of an inch and now its gone.........but the bumpstops are hitting on the coils again :flamemad:

so i guess ill plan on putting the longarms sooner than later...but first i gotta pay chris for them haha.

Are those Curry lca's? Does the side you have mounted against the unibody have the bushing welded off center with a small gusset welded on it? If they are, I had mine installed the same as yours and turned them so that the adjustable side was against the unibody. It fixed up some issues I was having with some binding.

i doubt they are currie. they were on the jeep when i bought it. not sure of the brand. no gusset on bushing side

picked up some 2.0x10" fox ressys. headed to poly performance right now to have them rebuilt then they will go in the front hopefully

has anyone used WeatherTech's AVM (all vehicle mate) floor mats? they are a good thick looking floor mat that hase places to cut the mats to fit any vehicle. was just wondering how well they fit and hold up.

for those of you using external resevoir shocks (bilstein, fox, king etc) what valving are you using. gunna be putting my fox's on soon and was just curious
