Sorry if this is the wrong section, wasnt sure where to put it though...anyways, first off i'm looking for a new tire for my g/f's stock 98 cherokee, i figured i'd put a 30x9.5 on this time just to make it look a bit beefier being she doesnt want to lift it yet. Anyways, how would you compare noise of the MTR to noise of the BFG MT? And last, she drives like a grandma, meaning if the speed limit is 25, she wont do more than 30...will she get at least 30k miles out of it? Thanks for any info.

MUCH quieter than a BFG MT.

I wore out a set of 31x10.50 MT/Rs on my XJ, with a 5 tire rotation. I got well over 70,000 miles on them. Not much left at the end though.

X2 MTRs are alot quiter and ride alot smoother than the BFG MTs I've had both in the old and new KM styles. That and along with being very durable offroad in anything but mud, which they weren't designed for, you have a heck of a tire. I've had 2 pairs of 35" MTRs and now 37" MTRS on my trail rig. Most everyone in the Sierra Chapter, SoCal, etc runs them. Also they are OEM on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for good reason, you can actually get a good tire from the factory with the Rubicon package, now they just have to offer them bigger than 31's. :laugh3:

Ditto,

I ran the BFG MT's and then switched to the MTR's. MUCH quieter and smoother! You will really like the tire.

I'm moving to 33's and will likely stick with the MTR's.

sounds good so far...i cant beleive you said 70k miles...thats crazy, i might look into them for myself now too...then again maybe not, i do see some mud.

Unless you're playing in mud, I find the MT/Rs to be a nice all around tire. Work well on the street, in the rocks, and in the rain and snow.

I suspect that I got an abnormally long life out of mine, though. They were regularly rotated and balanced. I certainly would not expect to get that many miles normally. You should be able to plan on 45 to 50 thousand miles on a set of 4, though.

Apparently I am the differing opinion here, but...

I switched from 32" MTR's to 33" BFG MT's and found no difference in the noise level.

Then again, maybe I am going deaf?

I'm sorry, did you say something? :D

From your was your 32 MTR 11.5W and the 33 MT 12.5W or something similar? Is it possible w/ a wider tire there is more rubber contacting the surface causing more noise? Just a thought Anyways aside from your input on no difference, do you consider the noise loud?

Interesting. That REALLY surprises me! My 31" MT's howled. Are your MT's relatively new? I know mine started out fairly quiet and got a lot louder as the miles racked up.

My truck is really loud (Borla header, 2-chamber Flowmaster, and high-flow cat). With the worn MT's I couldn't hear my truck over the howl of the tires.

I'm switching to 33's soon and I thought about going back to MT's because I do feel they offer a bit better traction offroad, but I like the MTR's better overall.
