Motor mounts?

Has anyone actually broken an engine mount before upgrading them or just upgrading as a precaution? I'm not talking about wearing the rubber out in the stock mount, but actually braking part of the metal mount.

Haven't heard of that, but mine are in rough shape right now. The bushings are sheared nearly all the way through and the upper half of the bracket is way above the bushing- no where near making contact with it= way loose motor. Looking forward to some of these Brown Dogs.

The mount that bolts to the motor is what broke on my 98. So technically my motor mounts didn't break but I replaced them when I replaced the broken mount. I used a set of Rustys rubber mounts.

It happened while I was driving on a dirt road. The motor dropped enough for the fan to hit the bottom of the shroud. Thankfully I was able to shut it down before too much damage was done.

if you're still driving an xj with broken rubber mount, who cares about the metal part, you still got enough movement to eat radiators. failure is failure, is failure.

ive seen the thread bosses break and the bolts break, havent seen the brackets themself break yet

From what I have found its a lose bolt /bottomed out prior to tight bolt that breaks the boss.

I'm just trying to find proof that I need the super brackets for my stroker.
for a stroker in a street jeep or mild off road rig then no, but a trail rig on tons and low geared tcase then def.
