I Matthew Roberts, being of unsound mind and body, and being a member in good standing, hereby make a Motion for a Sub-forum in the Midwest Chapter forum for the purpose of selling and buying stuff.

Who will second the Motion and maybe add a little motion to the Motion which currently has no motion?

Here, here.

I suggest we open it to vendors.

I suggest it be open to paid members only.

open to other chapters to post???

But then it excludes the teenagers(<18 specifically), who need cheap local stuff more than anyone, from participating.

I do see where you're coming from though, its a lot less likely for someone who has paid their dues to screw you over than some random user. I say open it to users, and if you don't want to deal with them, then skip over the black name posts. We do have stuff to offer too though:cheers:

I concur

Although I am not a paying member yet, and for that reason I have to disagree representative BOB. It is my opinion that, while paid members may in fact be more trustworthy, local sales are more likely to be in person and thus less subject to dishonesty.

i would see it as more as a benefit on the site to actual members, opposed to doing it out of reasons of trust.

on the other hand, i really don't see a need to limit it to just members, as it will just be an adminitrative PIA to enforce.

my 2 cents

Would it not be easy enough to only allow members to sell in it, but anyone could buy?

I do believe if the Admins wanted to they could put a password on the subforum and post it in the members only area or make the forum visible only to members.

I know I intend to set pricing by if you're red or not to maybe help encourage people to join and will be far more likely to give a deal on something to someone I've met/wheeled with, limited as that group is.

I honestly don't have a problem with user's being able to see and use it though. If we start saying only members can use the forum then why let them use the main for sale forum too? Most of the for sale posts there seem to be made by users.

A few things:
It's certainly possible to make it members only, but why? if it's a good deal it's a good deal. What if a user has some cheap tires to sell that I need?

Regarding prices:
Rev does that all the time, and I see nothing wrong with it. Members=buddies, we've wheeled together, so you get a buddy price. All the members here have helped me tremendously with parts for my junk for real good deals, and I appreciate that.

I think that most of the for sale posts are made by users simply because they outnumber members by a large margin. Per capita I bet members make just as many posts.

The only problem I have with users posting stuff for sale is if that is all they came here for, just to hawk thier crap.

I can watch for that as a mod and deal with it as I need to with the MWC BOD blessings. I do not feel the need to restrict access or posting to a FS fourm to only members, we can just deal with the abusers on a case by case basis....face it, I do not have a life during the week, so this place (and a few others) is it.

Sounds good to me. It was my intent, that it would encourage MWC membership.
Since REV is on guard, I can sleep easy. That is all. carry on. :D

First of all let me say I just became a member today via paypal. This was not from any pressure from any member pushing the membership drive. Maybe I can add some new refeshing attitude to the chapter and forums. I paid because guys like 5-90 and such have saved me from taking it to the dealer, and I prolly saved some money in the long run. What I don't like is the non-member bashing I see. We all have input, some good, some bad. Membership should not be a factor, I know there is alot of non-members out there who have more knowledge about an XJ than I do and yes I do value the opinions. As for only allowing members to post in the for sale forum, well someone allready said there are alot more non-members than members, and If someone had to sell something I needed and was close by, I don't care if a member or not. just my .02

I have purchased things from members before I became a member. I also have learned alot from this forum and that is why I joined. To do what I could to keep the forum as good as it can be. But to exclude people because they are not a member is wrong. Some guy's just dont have the money.

Oh yea I think a local sub for sale forum is a great idea. Expecialy for some one like me that dosent like to deal with shipping. I am parting out an xj now, but all of the replyes have been from across the country. I just dont have the time to be dealing with it.

....Jay....

hey rev, if I use my DD xj to tow my badarse cj5 to an event will you not beat me like a redheaded stepchild. I can break the the cj & laugh about it.

If it is a built up CJ and you tow it on a trailer with your XJ....I may give you crap about it if you exceed the towing capacity. As far as coming to an event in a CJ, naaaa....don't bother me a bit.

Rev

Hell, we let a Bravada wheel with us and it's not even a Jeep!!
