Fan clutch for 2001 4.0?

I'm not having any issues, we're just having exceptionally high temps here and my "new" 2001 Limited (4.0, AW4, 242, etc. etc. etc.) is running a little hotter than either of my old ones did, despite the last one being a 2000 with 50-state emissions (this new one is pretty much the twin of the 2000, just in way better shape in most ways. Same color, icon wheels, everything. Just wish it had up country but now I'm just whining). UNLIKE my last one, the 2001 doesn't even vapor lock on short stops at the store! But, it's close to 100F and humid out, probably not cooling off for 4-5 more days, I wouldn't mind a little better AC performance, and the engine temps are getting up to about 215-220F which while not horrible, I'd rather see them at 210F or a little below as I'm used to.

On my first (1999) XJ, I used the 2.5L fan clutch, which worked fine, but it was LOUD and I swear it robbed a little power. Second one (2000) I never replaced it but had no problems. I guess my question is, will the NAPA version of the stock 4.0 fan clutch (TEM 272318) be OK, or should I get the "HD" 2.5 fan clutch (TEM 272310)? I know my 2000 (the one I never replaced the fan clutch in) didn't have near as much noise as the 99 (with the 2.5L fan clutch) so I'm wondering if just plain old stock parts should be adequate.

I hope I don't need anything else, but the seller told me the rad was brand new and both it and the water pump look it, the coolant is clean and green, and all the hoses look good too.

I retired out of a Napa and used their fan clutch when I replaced mine in my '00.
Just the regular duty one. I would have to look up the number in my files but thinking that it is the same part number you posted.
I believe that back then they were rebranded Hayden's. Couldn't say if they still are today.
I am OK with it and want to say it has been on the Jeep for about 7 years now.
I discussed using the HD with my boss when I did this.
He said you don't tow, she is just a DD, and you are not having any cooling problems.
The HD one will most likely be loud and mess with the MPG.
Which apparently you seem to think it did. LOL.
He said just go for the regular one.

Thanks for the reply. I've ordered the stock one and am just waiting for the email that it's at the store so I can go and pick it up. I found I had a nice discount available so I already pulled the trigger last night.

What does "snork" mean?
Curious as to how you did order it.
For in store if my store did not have it in stock we check on availability.
Some times the local Napa warehouse, referred to as the DC, will have it in stock."
We go twice a day to ours so if you order it by a certain time can have it that day.
To late in the day but before 5PM, we can have it first thing in the morning, Tuesday through Saturday, from our local DC.
If a warehouse farther away has it, but not to far, we can shuttle it and it might be 1 to 3 days depending on which warehouse and what time of day we order.
With no shipping charges.
Other warehouse farther away, like clear across the country, could take some time and there will most likely to be shipping chargers.
Frankly I think either calling the store or ordering it there in person is better then doing it online.
I would call them to follow up.
Sadly things do fall through the cracks and it might be there already.

yeah I ordered it online after they closed Friday night because when I went to look it up I had a really good discount code. I'll have to call them after they open this morning because it really should have been there Sunday at the latest.

If they didn't have it in stock and it was close by not till today IMO.
They would have put it through Saturday but there is no overnight from the DC's, assuming they even get an overnight, Saturday or Sunday night.
But there would be one Monday night or very early, before opening, Tuesday morning so.....

I have a Derale USMW HD XJ fan clutch in my 2000 XJ. It definitely pulls more air than stock and its louder than stock, but I don't think its quite a strong as the 2.5L fan clutch.
