Most Scenic in So Cal

Well since I have never been there, I have a book that shows its best to go from South Fork Campground, which is off of the 38. i might stay the night in Big Bear and do a run Sun morning. I think for me it's looking like May 31st. I will know for sure in a couple days.

I should have both Saturdays open... (my eyes & toes & fingers & are crossed for good luck)
Keep us posted...

went down to devils hole in lake arrowhead.
nice trail. it goes down to a nice swimming hole, (deep creek)
took the wife and kids down there for mothers day.

For anyone interested, I am going to do Clark's Summit on Sat, may 31st. It is a 31 mile trail that traverses the back side of Big Bear. Most of the trail is Scenic and easy with some moderate 4x4 sections, With one steep down hill. Portions of the trail include sections of Skyline Drive. According to my trail guide the roads can be difficult to find in areas which might make it fun. It says it takes 4-5 hours and starts off of hwy 38 in South Fork Campground, and has parking. Looks like a good trail for close to stock vehicles. Fun drive stop for lunch, enjoy the views. Might stay over in Big Bear and run John bull on Sunday depending on My 18 year olds willingness to watch our Dogs! Plan on meeting at 9:30am which would gets us going around 10:00.

Yes 9:30, and according to the Ranger there is plenty of parking. Someone mentioned the Wilderness pass, would we really need one?

Depends on what your definition of "NEED" is ??
If you "stop" and have lunch or look around I believe one is supposed to have one... (:bs: ) We pay taxes right ??

Depends on where you want to stop for lunch and/or if you think Mister Ranger will be by.......

Many people use highways and roads through the national forests for commuting or sightseeing, without engaging in other recreation activities. Travelers park briefly to stretch their legs or enjoy the sunset along these routes. Some travelers have expressed concern that they will be "cited" for not having a pass. The Adventure Pass is required to be displayed on a recreationists parked vehicle along highways and other roads on national forest lands inside the boundaries of HIRAs, and in designated recreation fee sites. To view a listing, go to High Impact Recreation Areas, or Designated Recreation Sites.

In all roadside parking situations, Forest Officers who check fee compliance are trained and expected to use their discretion. No pass is required for activities incidental to through-travel, like taking a photograph, using a restroom, or in the case of a personal emergency or a vehicle breakdown. Passes are not required for short-term parking at designated overlook, view point or vista sites. If the officer's evaluation leads them to conclude that the vehicle is parked for recreation use purposes for an extended period of time, the officer may issue the Notice of Noncompliance (a warning notice), or in the case of a "repeat violation", the Violation Notice ($100 maximum fine).

Clarks Grade-1N54 traverses through an area that DOESN"T need an AP, but in starts and ends in Recreation Fee areas.

Just stop and have lunch where you don't need an AP
