Anyone know of a good forum for Mosin nagant mods/sporterizing/"bubbaing"?

Most of the ones I've seen are for collectors that call you satanic if you mod your rifle and ban you.

Satanist, how could you hurt this?

Saved that one ;) Picked up two barreled actions for $10 each a few years back, pieced that 91/30 together out of one of them and still have the other, I might cut that one down and make a broomstick out of it ;)

[insert that tactical mosin pic that's floating around the web, the one with the free float rail and arfcom accessories all over it]

if anyone on the gun forum gives you crap for modding a $99 rifle I'll laugh

Ar-15 has a section for them as well.

Personally this was my first rifle (M38) and I LOVED shooting it! So I bought the 91/30 and although its fun to shoot, the M38 has alot more kick and shoots some pretty impressive fireballs.

I <3 these old rifles. Ammo is cheap and they are easy to come by.

here's two different forums.

"sporterizing and modification topics will not be tolerated."

"This is a preservation forum and we do not advocate altering any military surplus rifle"

I guess these people think they were better off rusting away in some field in the baltics.

AR-15 doesn't allow free emails... that's retarded.

Eh, if enough of them get butchered, the value goes up.
Heck, my great uncle has a civil war rifle he bought out of the back of boys life magazine when he was a kid. They were dirt cheap back then. I suspect the nagant will be worth some cash if you hang on to it for 50 years.

Same goes for Cherokees! Though there's probably more of these than Cherokees.

Edit: yup Number built approx 37,000,000 (Russia/Soviet Union alone)

Dad's 91/30:

Since that photo it's had the rear sight base removed and it's remnants machined off, and the front sight is gone thanks to a 4" barrel chop and recrown.

Boyd's stock
Timney trigger
Rocksolid Industries Scope mount

He's supposed to go to the range today with Redheep and they're going to see how it shoots.

I won't hack up my M39 though:

The 39 shoots a legit 3" group with milsurp @ 100 yards. I've not yet had a chance to try this PRVI "Match" brass cased stuff. After we shoot that it's going to be handload time for 54R

I like the Boyd's thumbhole stock but I went with an ATI Synthetic always looks better than wood to me. :D

Does your ISP give you an email? If it doesn't then use a buddy's to register then you can swap it over to a yahoo/gmail account. That's how I got on to that forum.

As for the Nagant, I went out to buy ammo 2 days ago and one followed me home. Its Chinese, from "53 with a 21" barrel and bayonet. The stock is actually red in the sunlight, not sure if its the Chinese wood or if it was laying in a puddle of hyd fluid for a few decades. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet.

that red color comes from the oxidation of the oil they used to preserve it.

You'll only go to hell if you mess with an M44. I want to do a 91/30 with a modern scope mounted on top. My M44 is staying the way it is and if I find more for cheap i'll buy them. Those are hard to come by around here but 91/30's are everywhere.
