A couple of friends and I are running up MER tomorrow. Should be getting up there around noonish. The more the better, all invited.

CB 5

So far we have a JK 4 dr Rubicon, my kids stock XJ, a TJ and my pos.

See you up there!

Too bad for you guys! You missed a great trip. That is if you call multiple stucks and at one point everybody stuck having a great time!

After meeting at Mr. Perry's in Sacto it didn't look good. Rain followed by more rain. But we decided to head up anyways. We went up quite a ways up MER then we finally hit snow about ten miles from Hwy 88 (the gate). Then the fun started. We elected not to air down, mainly because the snow wasn't that deep and it was really wet outside! We finally got to about two miles from Hwy 88 and turned around.

Pics to follow.

I would've called you but it was last minute and to be honest it wasn't supposed to be to much fun with all of the rain. We honestly didn't expect any snow.

We'll be going again very soon. I'll e-mail you!

Just for everyone's 411. USFS LEO's were out in force! No not mine and your buddy Ken Marcus, but TWO LEO's in TWO 4 x 4 trucks! Now I ask you, with only so many Rangers to go around (seriously how many could there be, 3 - 5 to cover all of the ELDO NF - total) is it really wise to send TWO into an area that had maybe 10 -15 people back there? I have to wonder what in the heck their priorities were?

When I engaged one of them in conversation I asked him casually what they were doing back there, his reply? "Just trying to protect the environment." WTF? "Protect the environment"? From what/who? It was a snow covered paved road...

That pisses me off

I wouldn't read too much into it. The LEOs I've known, especially USFS / Parks types, are pretty decent folks.
County cops, on the other hand...

I'd bet they are there to observe and report as much as they can since being stripped of their local law enforcement privilege. I'm sure they will be trying to prove what they could have "helped" the county with if they got that privilege back.

I would agree mostly with you yo19. But every once in a while you get a Ken Marcus. Who basically shut down the ELDO NF and was the sole reason the USFS lost their enforcement powers in ELDO County. But these guys yesterday were not the freindly Rangers our Dad's knew. They were not there to help anyone or the environment. They were there to be cops. With M4's w/ optics and the entire para-military attitude that goes with todays law enforcement. Not a good thing.
