For the '91 owner griping that the thread sizes were wrong; 91 was a transition year for the HO motor. You could end up with the metric filter with 20x1.50mm threads (Fram PH3985, Wix 51626, AC-Delco PF9) on the vertical mount, or get the horizontal mount with 3/4-16 threads (PH8A, 51515, PF2, etc).

Last night when I searched (really) using "Mobil-1" and "Fram" as criteria I got two possibilities, This ancient thread under "Fram" search and using "Mobil-1" this thread:http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=967488&highlight=mobil-1

I'll search again for the Mobil-1/K&N comparsion you mention. I did find a filter comparsion thread on a motorcycle site that showed Purolater had better filtration than K&N, both surface area & micron size.

I use a PH8A with no problem. I throw away the filter about every 1000 miles, so I don't mind using a Fram.

Bigger than the 'PH8A' size is the Napa Gold (my preference) part number FIL1773. It's a quart or so larger than stock, original application being a fullsize Ford of sorts. On the 91+ HO engines with the horizontal mount you can get this filter on with plenty of room. Have been running this one for almost 5 years now. No issues. I haven't crossed it with any other brands except K&N (they didn't have one), mostly because I prefer the Napa ones.

I found the FIL 1773 is a paper media
FIL 1515 filter is a Cellulose media
OR...
NFI 91085 "stock size" "NASCAR select" with Synthetic/cellulose and "spin" design
Or the larger
NFI 91515 for the up-sized NASCAR filter.
