i did welding on my roof rack, I had great big slag marks into glass, this is how I fixed it... grab your bigest hammer and enjoy! then call the glass man to replace it, was like 180 bucks lasted a week before it had new crack turned out to be instalation so got 2 new one... now i feel i will roll it since i got new glass! i always thought that was weird you grind with glasses that are plastic and they dont get hurt you grind with glasses made of glass your screwed good luck

Isn't the shatter-proof plastic liner on the outside? That's probably what's grabbing those little suckers.

i have seen grinder pits left in other types of glass as well. building windows, work light lenses etc. the metal apears hot enough to melt the glass where it hits.

huh. . . I found a stripping/buffing kit at HF the other day I was thinking of trying. I know I could buy a windshield and just replace it and be done, but I like seeing what I can do myself. . . for cheap . I've been spraying the metal flakes with penetrating fluid and wiping it around so it doesn't run onto the seal. This weekend I'll give the stripping pads a shot after I get some other stuff done.

Dude. I dunno about you, but I don't grind with the sparks blasting me in the eyes.

Also, a grinder's sparks will melt a LOT of things. I've caught pants on fire, ruined paint, stuck it in glass, and chipped concrete. It's like sandblasting with an inferno. So I don't know what you're talking about with the plastic glasses? They'd be toast in a second...

Nothing yet :roll: I took an SOS pad and penetrating fluid and got alot of it out. As long as it's not raining at night I can see fine. I've been on the lookout for a used windshield, but I always seem to be a to late or they're chipped.

I called the ins. company and they won't cover it for a bunch of pretty legit reasons and the cheapest I can find someone to do it for me around here is $240. That's to much considering how long I've been saving up for gears.

I grind with glasses and a face shield on now, after a very close incident, and can tell you that the sparks from grinding/cutting will stick in glass way before it does the plastic.

I once had the cut off wheel sparks flying the wrong way and caught my shirt on fire. Glad no one was around to see that. lol
