Lockwood Run

It was driven down Millers by some hunter is the story the Forest Service gave us. Plan was to have it towed out, which the owner tried, but the recovery vehicle rolled. Now the Forest Service has asked Pt.Mugu to assist. Being holiday season we have not been able to get up there and the longer we wait the more difficult it may be. I now it is hard for everyone but if you have an itch for a run why not make it beneficial as well. :)

I might be able to help out next weekend.... it all depends on local skiing conditons.

Shooting for next weekend as I have been out in the garage all day and am just getting to messages and found everyone cancelled out except 2 others which it is too late to contact. Try to get them in the morning.
Keep it on your calendar though.

Just give me a heads up man. Are you still thinking of Sunday? That'd probably be best for me as I'll be farting around with that trailer on Saturday I'm sure.

What's the skinny on the area I'd have to drive into? You know the build of my XJ, will I make it or should I plan on riding in with somebody?

Where is the vehicle being taken to? Also, do you know the year range of a Ranger it is?

Also, I've got a spare battery that should still be good (I pulled it out of the XJ this summer when I got my Red Top), I'll put it on charge so we can have a battery for it.

Due to weather not going to attempt recovery this weekend. Snow in forecast and more snow for next week. Looks like it may be a spring fling recovery if this weather keeps up. Oh well we tried.

Spring time would work for me, just let me know early and I will gladly up there to help you guys out.

Yup.... weather.... I'm getting my lift tickets for Sunday as I type this :D

If the wheels go on the Ranger all we need is four Jeep spares with 5 x 4.5" wheels (which I may have at that point).

You might want to bring lug nuts just in case also

LOL it's the simple things that get you..... I thought of the spares and I somehow the lugnuts escaped me LOL...... I guess a donation of 1 lugnut from each wheel from each vehicle would be out of the question (before anyone jumps on this one.. it's only a joke :D). I guess that would give a new meaning to the old kids poem: for lack of a nail a kingdom was lost...

Wow...I hope whoever was in the recovery truck was OK after the roll.

hey I got a set of Ranger tires and wheels in the garage if you need to BORROW them. Yes I would like them back. I'm in Fresno so let me know if you need them.

Appreciate the offer ands may take you up on it, but it will be a few weeks at best before we try, due to other schedule conflicts making recruitment difficult. Even then it will depend on the weather and trail conditions. I'll keep you posted.

THANKS!!!

Have bot heard anything else on them but heard they were airlifted out in pretty bad shape. I hope they are on their way to a speedy recovery.

Plan on bringing 4 spare tires. Somebody is making a determined effort to render that Ranger unrecoverable. All 4 tires have large cuts in them, it would require a hundred or so plugs to get them to hold air.

There were also air cleaner housing pieces scattered about, I woudn't be surprised if they didn't do something to the engine. The seats are missing, bring a lawn chair. If I had my Cherokee out there I would help you guys out. I was Jeepless, visiting my Dad for Xmas and bummed a ride with some friends. If you can plan a date for the recovery, I can spread the word to my old club to help with the recovery. Good luck and thanks for making the effort!

Re: Lockwood Run - it's back

Well guys it is back. The Forest Service received a call from Fish and Game and the complaints are coming in. They have asked we try to get it removed ASAP. With the weather holding we are going to try, I know short notice but they only called last night, tommorow(Sunday). We have 4 people from Point Mugu who are trying to fit it into their schedule but could always use extra help. If you are itching to do a run this could be it.. I imagine meeting time would be Flying J around 9am'ish. I'll post later tonight after I make some calls and get all the specifics.
