Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one with common sense in this world. Have any of you driven a vehicle with a limited slip in the rear on slippery roads? Whether locked or limited slip powering through a corner will be hairy! A simple solution is to learn how to drive and don't get on the gas until you are going in a straight line.

I must have no common sense. I've driven my SWB Jeep with lockers in both axles, Swampers, and no sway bars in all kinds of inclement weather.

Haleyes, my previous statement was made due to the handling changes when driving the frt. wheels with the locker. In 2wd, you won't feel it, but in 4wd, it will want to pull with any traction difference side to side, full time or part time. I'm not one to worry about it, you can adjust to it. I just choose to run in 2wd on the road regardless of conditions, which with the rr. locker is rarely an issue traction wise. It won't affect the t-case negatively either. I didn't mean to imply that. Good luck and have fun.

I have Lock Rights and a 242. I always run in 2wd on the street and 4 low on the trail, but in snow, I put it in full time 4wd. Infact, I just used it last weekend to pull a 3k trailer up a mountain gravel road. In 2wd, I could feel the trailer wanting to push the Jeep around corners, so I put it in full time to get the front to pull without it being harsh. Worked great! I also use it in snow to help keep the tires from breaking loose.

I'm also interested in others experience with the 242....real experience, not just conjucture. Because the 242 doesn't have the vacume motor disconnect on the front axle, will a limited slip affect performance...even when in 2wd? I've always thought the only way to go was with selectable lockers...to maintain true "full time 4x4". Maybe a selectable in the rear (D35) and a limited slip in the front will work.

Help is appreciated...as I'm in the same boat.

Even though this is an old thread I'll reply....

Thanks Newbies for searching first.

I have the 242/ Locked 8.8 rear/Truetrac D30 Front and here are my observations.

During the winter I had my first chance to use FT in the snow...on Icy conditions I basically locked up in FT4WD and "crab-crawled"... IE wherever I pointed the wheels the whole Jeep moved in that direction...

On dry and semi loose gravel/dirt the TT performed flawlessly

On Wheel in the air conditions the TT slipped then grabbed but sometimes I had to apply brake to get it to stay locked.

Overall I'm VERY pleased at the TT and would recommend it to anyone that DD's their Jeep.
