Leaf Spring Question

Hello! This is my first time here. I had a question about replacing my rear suspension.

I have a 2000 XJ, and several years ago I used a Pro-Comp kit from 4 Wheel Parts to lift it. I am almost certain it was a 3" kit. The kit included replacement coil springs for the front and add-a-leafs for the rear as well as all the other necessary parts.

The add-a-leafs never really got the rear high enough, likely because the leaf springs were blown out, so I added two rear spring shackle mounts as well to get the rear end higher and even with the front.

I am at the point now where I feel like the rear suspension needs to be replaced. It just cant handle much weight in the vehicle and there is hardly even a bend in the leaf springs when they are at rest. They are basically just flat. I would like to replace them, but was unsure what to do since I added a leaf to the stock springs. Should I replace with stock and add the leaf in? Keep the shackles? Should I buy a completely different spring? Should I get a coil spring conversion kit?

I should add that I am planning on keeping the same lift height, I am not wanting to replace any of the front, and I cannot lift it more than it originally was as I maxed out the brake hoses and don't want to have to deal with replacing those right now either.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have had good luck with Old Man Emu (OME) leaf spring and they are available in several lifts and spring configurations.
Give Dirk a call at DPG Offroad, they specialize in OME springs.

You can lower the front brake hose mounts, to gain down travel, by unbolting the mount, where the hard and soft lines meet, and carefully straightening the hard line and relocating it lower on the frame.

This or if you are super cheap like me go to the junkyard and search for some leafs that will work and make a bastard pack. Do a search on here and you will find a lot of useful info on bastard packs for the xj using junkyard leafs. That way you can customize your lift amount and weight capacity.

I wouldn't go coils in the rear unless you are ready to spend a good chunk of change ( $1000-2000 ) and or are capable of fab bing your own 4 link setup. Its not a cost effective method to just gain a small amount of lift unless you plan to change rear axles to something larger or extending wheelbase running much larger tires.

When you say Shackle mount, do you mean the shackle or relocation brackets? Here's what I would do. based on budgets. 1 New rear lifted packs can be had for from $150-200 figure up to about 4" lift, 2 New OEM HD leafs $120 and a set of junkyard donors $50 for a bastard pack lift 1"-5" , 3 set of junkyard donors $50 for B-pack using current main leafs lift 1-4".
