Knucklehead's blog

I got home from KOH last night at 1:30 so we were able to pick up my new truck today.
2012 dodge ram 2500 cummins, 6 sp. auto, laramie, leather, buckets, heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, etc. etc. i think i am going to really enjoy my new truck!
they had to bring it in from pahrump, nevada since i had to have the deep cherry red color & that was the closest one the dealer could find with the options i wanted.

:eeks1: Frick'n sweet man, you'll love the Cummins! :eeks1:

Sweet truck Tim!

What did you have to do to run that chevy urethane transmission mount? Did it just bolt up to the stock mounts? And how much shorter was it compared to the stock one?

i made an adapter plate that bolts between the aw4 & the upside down chevy mount, then made a 2 hole mount welded to the new cross memeber that the mount bolts to. the energy suspension brand urethane mounts have hidden interlocking steel inside so if the mount ever fails it can not split in two like the stock jeep (or stock chevy) mount will. it is about 1.5" shorter than the jeeps giant mount.

Geeze this thing has come along way since I read it last. Goodwork hombre! Fun Factory looks way more fun then my new shop. I'm jealous!

thanks, when i get my mind to it i can crank out the projects. i have been collecting tools non stop for close to 40 years (since grade school) & still have quite a few more that i think i need to get. :loveu:

Are you near mountain view? Ill be up there this weekend. If you're close maybe Ill stop by and say hello.

i am in san jose. i plan on going to the 4 wheel parts truck show in search of tires for my cummins on saturday, but will be working in the shop sat afternoon & all day sunday if you want to stop by.

i picked up my two rebuilt driveshafts for the green xj today from steve at south bay drivelines. i killed them both at the hammers, the rear cardan joint was broken in multiple places, & both front & rear splined sections were wasted.

How much did he charge you there?

$525 for the pair. there was a lot of damage. the front shaft is almost all new. the rear is mostly new. there wasn't much worth salvaging. :D

i am not sure, but perhaps my driving style had something to do with it...:firedevil

both cross members are now done, links are all welded up & painted. the 3/8" steel plate belly pan is roughed out, just need to add a couple of drain holes, deburr & bevel the edges, then paint it.
i got the rear shifters made up for the atlas, then pulled it out so i can fill it with oil, mount the front case shifter, then it all goes in for good. should get a lot done tomorrow.
btw, with the 14" ori struts set with 5" of uptravel the belly pan has 23" of ground clearance! :skull1:

Dang Tim, that rear crossmember looks badass.

Wondering though, can you clock your Atlas more for more bellypan clearance?

not without cutting the floor completely out under the seat. it is really close right now since i raised the tranny mount a lot higher than stock. i think the 23" clearance under the lowest point of the belly pan should work out for a while....i hope.

I don't think you skid is thick enough.... shoulda gone with 1/2"...:roflmao:

i spent the weekend cutting, punching, fitting, sanding, & welding the rear "frame" reinforcements in place. now it is fully plated with 3/16 from bumper to bumper.
next up is cutting out part of the cage & the rest of the inner fender wells so i can fab up the rear strut mounts.

Somewhere in China, a skyscraper is missing some serious steel. You should be ashamed, depriving our Eastern friends some good American resources.
