Knucklehead's blog

the tube fairy blessed me with 200 feet of 1.5" .188" wall tube today.
that should get me started for a pair of tube bumpers & exocage. :skull1:
the winter will be busy for me i think...

i finished fabbing up a new 3/16" plate gas tank skid that will bolt directly to the bottom of the frame. i picked up 8.25" of ground clearance by raising the tank up!
i would have gotten a lot farther today but our power was out most of the day so no lights, power tools, or internet porn! :smsoap:
i did get the rear caliper brackets laid out on some 3/8" plate though. i'll cut them up tomorrow.

That looks pretty clean. Did you plasma it out and grind it or do something else? It looks manufactured. I approve! FYI if you get a fancy phone you can get your internet porn there but Im not sure a 2 inch chick spread eagle is much to look at. Jus say'n...

i started with a plasma but it was too rough & smelled like dog shit. (although that could have been Jax & not the undercoating & seam sealant burning my nose)
why use a smart phone when you have a 58" hi def plasma tv to watch? :eyes:

Tim are you going to need to stiffen that area back up? Now that you have that huge hole in your cargo area. Is that plate going to be welded in or bolted?
Just wanted to know so someday when I do this mod I will know how. :)

got the artek rear truss from brown santa today. that thing is beefy! i need to fab up a couple stands to mount the rear housing onto my bridgeport so i can machine the rear cover & bottom for the shave kit. then it will be time to start some serious welding.
the fun never ends.

Hey Tim, random question about your green machine...how did you like running those drop brackets on the short arms? I want to get TnT Long Arms but if I ever sell my XJ to get a 97 and newer one I can't exactly put short arms back on once the lower mounts are cut off. And there is no way I'd sell my Heap with TnTs on it, you know? So I'm either thinking of running cheaper, decent long arms or going really cheap and getting drop brackets. All my control arms are fully adjustable and have flex ends so they are nice arms, they are just short and lame, lol. Anyway, didn't mean to hog your thread. I just figured you ran them so your the guy to ask.

Thanks!

BTW the red Heap is coming along nicely!

Alex, I know your question was directed at Tim, but I have ran those drop brackets and they work well for their purpose. Sure they get hung up occasionally, but so does just about everything else. IMO, they are a reliable alternative to going LA's and make a difference in road manners. Just my two pennies.

i agree with ben. i really didn't see much of a difference in handling between the drop brackets & the t&t long arms, but i always hung up on the drops, plus the t&t has a killer belly skid, although somehow i managed to bend mine. (insert a smartass comment from the_weirdo here)

Thanks for the input. I guess my main reason for considering brackets is when I find a new Jeep I could swap all my stuff and add long arms. Where as if I long arm mine then Id have to sell the Jeep with long arms on it or drive it til I roll and scrap the thing. Hmm...decisions decisions...

Ok, back to regular scheduled knucklehead programming.

Alex, I think you can also just weld on new lower arm mounts if you decide to sell.

wait, what?!? :eyes:
did josh just give a simple, honest, non-sarcastic answer?!?
someone must have hacked his account & be posting with his user name!

It's the kinder, gentler Josh.

something is not right here...:twak:
are you trying to score brownie points with:
1) your better half?
2) santa?
3) some government agency?
4) a parole officer?
5) :NAXJA:?

Oh, BTW...this might explain the bent TnT belly skid...jus say'n...:anon:

From what I've seen of Tim's driving technique and line selection, he could have bent that TnT skid any day of the week. :looney:

Nice link. Tim has a magical beard? That is awesome! What does it mean if he has a shaved head and a long beard? Must be a good welder indicator...

From the link:
"the older recruits replied that when they received their required military haircuts, they could no longer 'sense' the enemy, they could no longer access a 'sixth sense', their 'intuition' no longer was reliable, they couldn't 'read' subtle signs as well or access subtle extrasensory information.

So the testing institute recruited more Indian trackers, let them keep their long hair, and tested them in multiple areas. Then they would pair two men together who had received the same scores on all the tests. They would let one man in the pair keep his hair long, and gave the other man a military haircut. Then the two men retook the tests.

Time after time the man with long hair kept making high scores. Time after time, the man with the short hair failed the tests in which he had previously scored high scores."
