Kewanaw Peninsula?

thats what ive heard, i just dont wanna be doing that lol

got anymore pics of "easy" trails Roxtar?
Those were the easy trails.

Seriously, it all depends on the season. In summer things dry up.
We were there on a monsoon weekend.
Camping at McCain State Park during the storm was incredible because you felt like the waves were gonna drop right on your tent. Had to reguy everything down to make sure we woke up in the same county as we fell asleep in.

There are all sorts of conditions to be found, there is easy stuff in the spring, summer, and fall. To be honest I know only a few places like the one in Roxtars pic, and his isn't one of the ones i know. I was stuck out near Misery Bay with another Jeep once, and that did involve a lot of walking and time to get someone to pull us out.

But this is what I like to do when I go out:

And then this was this afternoon... It was actually work to drive, we still do have 1.5-2 ft of snow and some south facing areas are almost bare. Airing down was the biggest benefit of the day.

Most street friendly tires out that afternoon was BFG AT's that weren't aired down on the TJ. I aired to 15 psi. Don't worry Rob, there will be plenty of time for fun. Any leads on that trip yet?

It can still be pretty sloppy in the dry months. This is on one of the trails going from Calumet to Gay.

This trail changes a lot - sometime bone dry other times deeper then what this pic shows. Course this is more out of your way - its over in Michigamme - about 63 miles from Tech: (for reference that those are 39.5 swampers - wasn't too bad cept for the small hole that caught passenger rear)

Well, like I said go to www.coppercountryexplorer.com and look around for all your ghost town needs. I will be up for a number of weekends this summer, it would be cool to get together if your looking for someone to wheel with. Those above pictures were taken out by 5 mile point. And I did find a decent trail to the tip of the Keweenaw, there are a couple of ways but one has a beaver dam in the way and would require either doing it in winter with a snowmobile, or having a big rig with a winch. Then there is one more traveled to the north and on further south around Hoar Lake that goes out to Keystone Bay which is looks to be the nicest sandy beach out that way, thats the one of the trips I'm looking to do this summer.

If you're thinking of the July 4th holiday, you better be calling the campgrounds NOW, and you still might be out of luck.

Fort Wilkins-Modern
(800) 447-2757
159 site(s), $25/$23/($16 semi modern-off season rate)
Campsites with 50 amp Service, Electrical Service, Mini Cabin, Modern Restrooms

IIRC, gas prices are a few cents higher than the Lower Peninsula. Ask me next week, I'm making a flying run to Calumet over the weekend.

Unless you come up through Baraga, on the Indian Reservation, then the Pines gas station on 41 just north of town is normally cheaper, so you could hold off to top off there, but other than that he's right.

And your last chance for gas when going all the way up is normally Calumet (or one of the small towns just north), but the gas station in Copper Harbor usually is seasonal for snowmobiliers.

Coming from da Bridge, he'll go right past the Pines.

Gas is also usually a little cheaper in Houghton/Hancock, than farther up the Peninsula.

McLain State Park is great. Right on the shore of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee.

I thought that Mclain's had closed all camping. Must have just been the row of sites closest to the lake (lakeshore erosion.)

That I couldn't tell you.
It has been several years since I was there.
If so, it's too bad.

According to their website, Mclain's still offers camping. Deb & I were up there in the fall 4 years ago, with a gorgeous view of the setting sun over the lake from the campsite. The erosion was within a couple of feet of the drive in a few spots.

Screw the Pines - they don't offer much cheaper gas now. Said they were loosing money, and only offer the "good rates" to the tribe. I believe though it maybe 2 cents cheaper then Barage / Lanse still. Actually gas was pretty much the same price across the UP. I paid the same in Iron Mountain, as I did in Humboldt, Lanse and Houghton. They were all cheaper then here in Indiana by 8 cents. Course it goes in swings - I've seen this before, then after awhile the prices up there climb when they dont anywhere else.
