I just wanna drive through all the old abandoned towns. and camp. I think it would be tons of fun

if you gone there before what did you think?

or if anybody has any maps of all the towns etc. im not haveing to much luck finding anything online.

Nope. Never been there. Not much to see. :D

While there may be a lot of "lost" civilization up there, there are still a lot of people living up there. For maps, stop in Calumet at the Visitor's Center, they've got a bunch of good maps.

Lessee..... Eagle River, Eagle Harbor, Brockway Mountain, Copper Harbor. Not much pavement beyond Copper Harbor. That brings up a good point. You'll probably be on a bunch of logging roads. Do *NOT* block them! You may find your XJ moved, and not in a kindly fashion, you might even consider leaving the keys in the ignition.

I live here! lol. You'll find hundreds of logging roads, some currently in use and most not so much. There are trails to the actual point of the keweenaw. If you dont mind risking camping "illeagally" (it can be a gray area, but everyone I talk to to determine the legality says that its not a huge deal) out in the middle of nowhere there are plenty of senic spots. Check out coppercountryexplorer.com for all your ghost town needs.

I live in a shatty house on college ave in houghton for the time being while I go to school at MTU. Better?

College Ave........ Frat Row? or across the street.

Used to live in 1203.

Jeff, we've been through this lol, I'm in 917. And the MTU 4 wheelers know their way around but expedition type stuff is not really their cup of tea. I am a MTU 4 wheeler actually, I would call myself one of the more exped orientated ones. Is it just me or should their be a naxja invasion of the U.P. this summer? Not meaning to be a thread stealer :D

lol - I'm from the area orginally, and my wife grew up in Calumet...... Its getting harder and harder to wheelin the area with all the out of state people buying up everything and then shutting it down. Haven't brought my XJ up there yet, but we take our quads every summer. I am still working on plans to get a small offroad park going in the area (Michigamme).

Having just bought a house....... the chances of me wheeling in the near future are slim & none. I will be up there around the end of May or early June delivering a washer & dryer set.

Depending on when you go I may be willing to tag along. I'm up in the UP at least 3- 4 days a week for work anyways. Anyone selling some cheap 32's? I have all I need for a lift except rims and tires. Until the wedding is done in Sept I cannot buy any parts or toys for my Jeep's. hasta

I'm talking about driving around, looking for old overgrown "roads", then driving down them to see where they lead.
About 5 years ago Jake and I met up with a guy named Christian who took us out with some MTU 4X4 guys.
We just scouted around till we found some trails.
Reminded me of the old jungle expedition type stuff.
Jake drove most of the day with me as his winch-bitch.

We ended up spilling out on a deserted shore of Lake Superior.
Great time.
(Yes, the dude did, indeed, abide)

Yeah, that sounds more like them. Thought you meant more of actual expedition stuff, but going out finding a old trail and ripping it is a specialty. Any idea of where you were there?

No idea.
I got so turned around.
We started in Houghton and ended up on a very cool trail that dumped us on the shore of Lake Superior at night.

Lol, okay. I'll let it slide then. :D

well guys as much fun as it sounds. I DONT have a winch and will be putting my 31 inch BFG all terrains on stock wheels to head up there (dont feel like paying for the gas or putting that many miles on my swampers) ;)

so i would do some exploring but as soon as it came to a mud hole i would have to turn around. Because my gf would kill me if i didnt too lol. Plus im just not a big one on wheeling by myself in the middle of the up were i know no one and there isnt much within walking distance. One more excuse lol. I drive a jeep and i heard they like to break. dunno lol

So i will mostly be camping and walking around.

thanks for the links and stuff guys keep the pics coming :)

Don't let Brad's (Roxtar's) pics fool you. You can have a lot of fun up there without sinking in a mudhole.
