Keeping A Low Center of Gravity.

I'm at 2.5" lift and running 33x10.5's.
I run 11" travel shocks and use all of it up front, and most of it out back.

Flex pictures, empty cargo, street psi in the swampers.
Flexes better when loaded with recovery gear and at trail psi... go figure.
In these pictures the front is not fully drooped, and the rear is not fully stuffed.

That's a good setup. I wish I could trim....

Front;
3.25" before I contact the bumpstop, maybe another 0.5" of bumpstop compression?
Rear;
6", but, my leafs have an overload spring, so, I'd guess 3.5"-4"

I've got 33s and stock gears. It's not great, but it's doable. Drive it everyday, don't take it out out of 3rd. I keep it out of drive. It made it up at Big Bear running John Bull, so it's doable, but 4.88s are going in as soon as I can afford the install. I have a D44 already built and ready, But need to gear the D30.

How do you people with low centers like how it handles? im sure it must be pretty nice. I'm liking the blue one above with 2.5in lift and 33s. I don't ever want to go to 5.5 again i hated the way it drove around here. And now im starting to think that a 3" lift may be ideal for me.

No complaints.
Does not handle as well as my stock WJ, or the company's stock Honda Pilot, but does handle better than the company's stock Chrysler Pacifica, and much better than a stock fullsize 1/2 ton pickup.

It's a lifted 12 year old Jeep wagon, but it sticks to the road well enough, and stays flat enough that there is no drama running twisty secondary highways at the speed limit or even slightly over (5-10mph)...

Stock sway bar up front, swaybar removed from the rear.

handles better than a stock xj without swaybars.

I also have stiffer springs, remote resi shocks in front, outboarded shocks in back, a significantly wider width than stock. and no swaybars.

the bumpstops bottoming on harder corners keeps body lean to a minimum
cruises on the highway faster than i should be cruising (but anybody can build a rig to do that)

The problem of going too low is the lack of up travel.
I have worked hard to get 5 1/2" of up travel with a 4" lift, on 33"s.
2 1/2" lift is only going to have 3-4" of up travel at most unless some serious inner and outer fender modifications are done.
I like going fast, on desert roads, and up travel is a must.
Hitting the bumpstops too often is not a good thing. YMMV

I have no problems absolutely hauling the mail on desert roads, and in washes.
'Course, OME springs/shocks were designed just for such activities, so, that likely has a lot to do with it... I cannot vouch for or discredit any other manufacturers as all I've ever run is OME.

lazy xj,

care to shed more light on your setup other than whats described in your signature? I'm at about 4 inches on 31's and would prefer not to go any higher when i go to 33's. Right now i have about 5 inches of up travel with 3.5 RE springs, and 10 in 5150's, but i need more bumpstop or trimming (or combination of both). I'm always looking to see what other people's setups are, and yours seems to appeal to me.

The front end has OME 935 coils , plus the ACOS, which is used to adjust the height. Is has dropped brackets and adjustable control arms. The front axle has been moved forward about an inch, provding a little more clearance at the back edge of the innner fender. The inner fenders had been hammered a bit for clearance plus the front fenders have been trimmed and the flares moved up as high as they go.
The 10" 5150s have lowered bottom mounts , to allow more up travel.
The stock bumps stops have been replaced with Prothane coil inserts, they have been trimmed to allow for up travel while not allowing the front end to fully bottom out, I recommend them highly.
I have spent a lot of time adjusting every part in the front end- moved sway bar mounts, location of track bar frame bracket, reinforced the axle LCA bracket, adjustable ball joints and whatever it took to get the geometry back into Factory specs. It all needs to work together and every time some major part gets changes, you need to make sure it works well with the rest of the parts.

Fantastic thread and right up my alley. I don't commute with my truck but it needs to make a 300 mile round trip to and from my local offroad park so COG comes into play.

Has anyone on this thread installed front long arms with their lifts? I have read alot of drop brackets.

I have not done long arms or drop brackets. I haven't found a reason to do long arms yet and I dont want drop brackets. I drag enough over the rocks already. I would tear drop brackets off for sure.

I use to think that too but I have had no issues with dragging the DB's on rocks, they are holding up just fine. I have the RE's with braces

i have some homebrew longarms. and some off the shelf longarms will work at lower heights.

the next rig (this fall/winter) will have a 3 link midarm though. there is no need to have such long control arms at my height.

Being new and not knowing much I was looking at the TNT 4" longarm kit. The majority of my time is spent saving cash and reading threads like this.

I tnt is good but the reason im not sure on long arms is because if i ever want to switch out my components to another truck i can't roll back the changes i did and sell the old one. That's why i like bolt on parts.
