Keeping A Low Center of Gravity.

right now i have a cry rear, and 2in lift and 29"s, But i drive her daily and need to locate gears first. But first first i have to find someone to make me rockers and weld them in also floor pans. unless i buy a newer rust free jeep. and im cheap and am not gonna pay a body shop.

I've wheeled a little with Always Broke and his cherokee is set up pretty much the same as mine. We both can go about anywhere we really want. I will say he can be a little happier with the skinny pedal though.

That's funny right there.

Better than the 6" and 30's I was running for a while...Finally got my 33s on a couple months ago and lowered it 5.5" front and technically 4.5" rear. It's a RE3.5" leaf with 1" JKS Boomerang shackles. The front is just RE 5.5" coils.

i think i could remove a leaf in the rear but idk, im hoping it will sag a little being their 89 dakota leafs

Idk man. looks pretty good to me. But things never quite look the same in pictures either. But if they're off an 89 they're probably already sagged as much as they're goiing to.

so... i came to the hard reality today that just because i have more height from my 4.5" lift doesnt mean i get more flex running on 235/75 tires ;( so now i need to determine how big i can run w/o much trimming(i wanna keep my flares) i think im leaning towards either 31 10.5's or 32 1?.5 and i know with proper bump stopping i can go larger w/o rubbing but idk if i wanna go bigger than 32's

ok so i was sitting here scratching my head why my droop sucked which in turn limited my flex... well i just remembered that im still running the same shocks i had when i was running my 2 inch lift, the pro comp es6000 3" lift shock... so im betting thats what's limiting my rear from drooping more and front from doing the same keeping my wheels planted, but im still irritated my up travel isnt what it used to be, so i will still need bigger tires to stuff like i used to...

It has taken a couple years to get everything sorted out but now I'm happy with the short 4" lift (and so is my short wife).
The 10.50 tires tuck into the wheel wells without rubbing.
The fenders have been trimmed and the flares raised. The inside of the front fenders have been massaged for clearance.
I use zip-ties, on the shocks, to measure travel and adjust the bump-stops accordingly to get the maximum up-travel without bottoming.
The long polyurethane bumps really help eliminate hard hits.
A lot of other things have been done but these are the basic specs.

4' lift with 33 X 10.50 KOs. Stock rims (7" wide- 5.25" BS) with 1.25" spacers (4" effective BS- 4 1/2" BS would work too).
Front suspension- dropped brackets, OME 935 coils (needed for the weight of the winch), ARCO, 10" 5150 shocks- lowered bottom mounts
Prothane coil bump-stops, swaybar disconnects.
5 1/2" up-travel and 4 1/2" down

Rear suspension- 6-leaf bastard pack with plastic liners, 2" longer shackles, 2" lowered front leaf spring mounts, raised axle shock mounts, 8 1/2" OME rear shocks (to be replaced with 7100 10" short-body).
4" poly bumps (narrowed)
4 1/2" up-travel and 4" down.

With the front dropped brackets in the front end and the lowered rear spring mount and shackles, close to stock suspension geometry has been retained, smoothing the ride.
The full-length plastic leaf-spring liners are a great addition, also adding to a smoother ride.
Most of my friends have lifted TJs and anyone who has ridden in them say the XJ has a superior ride on rough trails.

Good info, i would have gone the TJ route if i didn't need the room for all my fishing crap, and regularly tote a canoe around. I also agree the ride is much better, and more secure from bums wanting to sleep in it.

the prothanes in front i got through www.jegs.com

and the rears can be had most anywhere. i found a seller on www.amazon.com who had the best price, but you can also get those through jegs.

Hey ktm, I hope you don't mind me copying your mod. I just did it today. i got dpg's bumpstop plate and drilled a hole for these bumpstops that I got from Summit Racing:

I have about 6" of uptravel so I think I need the 4" bumstops. The ones I have are the 2.5" bumpers.

Thanks for the idea KTM. :wave1:

can anyone shoot me the 411 on what kind of backspacing or offset i should run with a 4.5" lift and 31x10.50's riding on 15x8's? i was considering 4" backspacing/-12mm offset, but im concerned with not being able to still stuff my rear or front during flex, for a 1/2" difference i could do the 4.5" backspacing with 0 offset to set the wheel dead centered but i'd also kind of like an aggressive stance still. so i guess what im looking for is a compromise between looks and function and wont a wider stance help aid in not being as tipsy

sorry if its a thread jack but im looking to keep my low COG when i buy new wheels, and not have to trim my flares.
