Keeping A Low Center of Gravity.

With a name like built2flex, i wouldnt expect you to see the benefit of "uptravel issues" on an actual decent COG and wheeling suspension setup versus an overflexy RTI queen

Uh oh. They called in reinforcements. First off that's Capital "Built2Flex" to you.

Secondly, I ride what I ride. It's still on all fours. So that must stand for something. What's up with all you guys in the NE hating on 6'+ lifts?

No one's hating on your lift. You're hating on those who prefer to keep their Jeps lower. As has been said, you prefer taller, others prefer lower. Get over it.

our mountains in vt don't like vehicles on stilts, try driving even 35 on my snakey A$$ roads, and you'll hate it to. And on the interstate its even more fun sailing around a 50mph sharp bend with a semi on your A and a cross wind., and 6" lift and teeny 33" tires i personally dont like it, and upgrade tire size isn't an option because then your into i need different axles. I don't really see the difference between lifting high and not cutting or just shorttening the lift by 2" and cutting, im not trying to win car shows, im looking for a stable ride, here in the mountains jacking it high and driving on roads based on indian foot paths is very nerve racking. I really cant see how a 2" lift difference amounts to much more than a minor differnce. Maybe people are reading adds to much telling them that higher is better, me i don't believe its stable if your going over 30mph. keeping it lower, increasing the weight on the bottom(tires), and widing your stace with backspacing to me makes an overall safer ride, imo even safer than stock.

I'm at 5.5-6" of lift on 35s and I want to drop it down lower.

I'd like to get down to 4".

as of last night that is about my setup

4" and 35's

and i must say the 35's look tiny coming from the 37's

so far i love it though, with the 5.38's she is a rocketship on the street, and coming from a larger bias ply tire to a smaller radial tire, the on road ride is much more amazing.

will be testin it out this saturday.

I ran the OME 2.5 + budget (pucks & shackles) = 3.5-4" lift with 31" tires for years.
I was able to run on about any trail. The only reason I would not go is that I wanted to keep my sheet metal straight. So I did not follow the buggies.
At this point I wanted to keep the rig look as much like stock as possible. So I had the stock bumpers and no trimming. I did have some armour. I wanted a capable rig both on and off the road but did not want to spend the money to work out the issues with large lifts and tires.

In the 3-4" lift range you are at the top end of what I would call the less expensive lifts. If you are lucky you can run at that height with none or a limited number of other suspension mods. You know... SYE, new track bar setup, control are relocation...
I was lucky and was able to run for a time mostly stock. Had a TJ slip yoke (slightly longer) and new LCAs.

Now on the the 31" tires. That was as large as I would go with the current gearing. They would tuck up in the fenders nicely. This allowed for plenty of up travel. I could limit that to where I wanted with bump stops. Adjustments on the shock mounts allowed good droop.
This size of tire was not a problem for the stock axles if you are not mud bog racing. Lighter tires meant good gas mileage and road manors. I was still commuting with it at that time.

I wanted to keep as much stock look as possible. For One I like the look of cherokees and Two cops do not bother you. With the setup most people though I had maybe 2" of lift. It was a well balance setup that hid the potential very well. No hate here. I just like the look on the faces of the people in 6"+ rigs when I would follow them over an obstacle. :)

The only thing I would have done different at that point would be to regear and run 32s. They would still be able to tuck in nicely. I personally think that 4" of lift with 32s is one of the best all around setups.

That being said I wanted large tires. I was looking at 33". So I had to regear. I went up another inch so I could fit true 33" (285/75-16) tires and still have some stock look. But you cannot hide that much lift with 33" tires. The stock flares are still on and mostly mounted in the same location. I had to trim 2" from each end of the front, 1.5" on each end on the back wheel wells and pick the correct backspacing to allow the tires to stuff nicely.
The large tires and lift force the addition of other goodies: CA drop brackets, SYE, Track bar, new rear axle...

Figure out what you want to do with the rig. If you care about how it looks figure that in too. Learn from others experiences...ask questions, read, talk and look at rigs. Plan and build. Have fun and drive.

Yeah i have the HD springs i like them a lot you feel more bumps but it seems balanced. also i feel like there is less body roll on road.

Yeah the bump thing is noticeable. It was really bad before I put on the drop brackets but now it's pretty decent. The coils don't sag though. I have a winch, winch bracket, front skid and oil skid and it didn't even lose 1/4".

yessir

prothanes in front and these in back (since the pic i have taken out a couple leaves and extended the bumpstops by 2.5" (this is not ride height)

I love them, made my jeep a totally different machine offroad (especially at anything above 15 mph)
So since both your front and rear bumps are progressive, you leave them longer then your standard bump? meaning if you were using a standard lets say 4" bump in front, you would set the prothanes at like 7-7.5.sound about right? this sounds right since they are progressive.

yes sir

i run about 5" of poly bump in front and they compress to about 3"

in back those are 2.5" bumps which will compress to about 1"

2.5 in back? they look more like a 4.5 lol. Jegs sells all of the prothane products.

i thought they looked larger too. i never really measured them, they are just sold as 2.5"

so idk

what tires are ya runnin now, sam??

You got pics of that sucka with 4" lift and 35"s??

I want to see pics too. I'm still in the planning process but hope to end up with 4.5"-5" (or so) lift and 36"s.

Right now I am at 3.5" lift with 33's so I want to see what I will be working with. :D Though at the same time I will be caging and probably welding in my own tubbed out fenders, so I will end up buying the tires first and then lifting as much as I need..
