Keep an eye out for my jeep that just got stolen!!!

When my Jeep was stolen, the reporting officer said one of two things would happen.
1. End up burned out up in the mountains
2. Down south of the boarder with a couple keys of green stuffed in the back

Ended up being found off Federal ~3 days later.

Thieves stole the CAI filter and tube, and my 10 year old North Face jacket and $3 in coins.

If I were you, I would take a day to cruise the surrounding neighborhoods and some around Federal and see what you find. Check the alleys and side streets, and remember to not get shot! Mine was found parked legally in front of a house by a attentive officer who noticed the rear window broken out at 3am on a Saturday night.

Good luck, I know how you feel.

Matt, did your insurance company end up paying out to you enough to get everything fixed?

You definitely had rough luck in that...but silver lining being that at least you got it back and it wasn't completely destroyed.

It's amazing what people will steal. Hell, Hal Frost's Comp Buggy was stolen (and much much later miraculously found somewhat intact) for christ's sake. My two biggest fears with my buggy are theft, and fire. I can take many a counter measure against fire (which BELIEVE me I am)...but theft you can only do so much. This is why the buggy will NEVER sit on the street either on the trailer or parked. I'm just way too paranoid (even in Fort Collins) of it being stolen. Seems like someone wouldn't be so dumb as to steal something SO visible and one-off...but no one said thieves are bright.

Buddy of mine some of you might know (Wally on CO4x4) had his tires slashed while his rig was just sitting on the trailer

Hope you are able to get your rig back...or at least a check to cover most of it from insurance.

As said its amazing the lengths people will go to just to screw over people more fortunate than themselves. When I had my first YJ the guys slashed my soft top, put a screwdriver through my deck since I had the faceplate off of it and a old canvas half duster. They also keyed my parents XJ and stole an old camera. This was all in slc. It just really gets under my skin what people do to each other like that.

Yeah I would really love to be able to find people like that, string them up...and have a flogging party.

Crap like this (and many a thread on Pirate) is why when I do get a place of my own...I will be setting up security lights and camera all around the house to help deter such things. And, if they do happen most likely I will have it caught on camera (which has saved several people on Pirate and elsewhere I've seen a bit of money in the long run).

$1k or so worth of lights and video equipment is WELL worth it to me to possibly save multiple tens out thousands of dollars in theft and vandalism.

If you read the fine print most insurance companies dont offer full coverage and i assume its for this reason. they arent fully covering the vehicle as youve modified it but as what it is
I know both USAA and Progressive offer Comp and Collision but not full coverage

Jim probably knows more about this though

The technical term for this coverage is called "Agreed Value" which is basically a limit that is agreed upon between you and your insurance carrier for additional work and modifications that you've done to the vehicle.

Otherwise, if it's a total loss (IE. Stolen, destroyed) then you're going to get the book value, minus depreciation. If your Jeep is registered as an "Odometer Exempt" vehicle, you'll get even less than that. As an example, I have my XJ insured for $10k which would cover the cost of another 89' (remember, it has to be the same year) and the cost of the long-arm kit, cage, wheels, tires, etc...plus the estimated cost of someone installing it all. It costs me about an extra $39.00/month

Not all insurance carriers offer this endorsement, but it would definitely be worth talking with your agents to see if it's worth it for you to bump your coverage. Some carriers call it "Stated Value" others will call it "Agreed Value" - different terms, same vernacular.

If your carrier doesn't offer it, call me and I'll hook you guys up. The brokerage side of my agency uses Allied Insurance which is owned by Nationwide.

The insurance finally paid to have the Jeep fixed after a long time. Took forever, but it was fixed to almost like new (They couldnt buy new overhead light and vent so I got them from Yella).

Not sure which I hate more, insurance or thieves.

I don't recall consenting to govt thieves stealing part of the fruits of my labor...

Just got off the phone with commerce city PD a couple hours ago...they found my cherokee!!!

Someone reported an abandoned vehicle and it turned out to be my jeep sitting on cinder blocks in an alley. The officer told me that the wheels and tires are all gone, the battery and cd player are gone, and the dash is a little tore up from them tearing out the radio. The ignition is destroyed, and for some reason they ripped the key fob thing off the headliner between the visors and all the wires are dangling out of the headliner.

I havent seen the jeep yet but the officer said everything else appears to be there and in good shape as far as he could tell. The jeep is now in the commerce city impound lot until lakewood pd does their thing and releases the vehicle for pickup...then i have to go assess the damages/missing parts with my insurance agent and go from there.

Im so glad that ill be able to recover most of the parts, now i just have to figure out how much ill be getting from insurance, if they are going to consider it a total loss, and what im going to do with the jeep. Ill keep you guys updated! Thanks for everyone who has kept an eye out for me over the last few weeks!

That is great, and terrible news!

I have a stock rear axle you can slip under it...

Amazing how long something can sit like that before its reported.

I'm happy for ya Seth......

Now, let's all keep an eye out for the tires and wheels.

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
