Hmm.... A good idea. We go to Carolina beach and Kure beach each year. Maybe I'll give that a try. I'm afraid to be sucked out to sea while paddling in the inlets... much more worried about it while I'm actually in the sea! lol

Yes 20 minutes... I konw of several rivers to go to but where is there that has shuttles and what not.... Somewhere to go rent a Kayak and ride and get picked up and dragged back... Although, it would be fun to offroad in the Jeep and leave it there to load up and drive back myself... I'd probably paddle off of a damn waterfall! I'll be buying and SE River guide book with the Kayaks.
Saluda River, Reedy river are 2 she can think of. Not sure about shuttle service. We always use 2 vehicles, unload at the put-in and then drive the XJ to the take out and leave it, then float down. I have it figured out that a 6 mile float is just about right if you fish hard it will take all day. If you are just paddleing go for 10 or 12 miles. My athletic son likes to do 15-20 miles a day but thats too much like work for me.

inlets are cool also. Tons of wildlife and great scenery. Our boats taking a break on a sandbar near Myrtle beach.

But thats only if you can find a good spot to load up 6 miles down the river! lol

Just look on a map where a road intersecs the river, I would bet there is a put-in/take out spot. thats how it is up here anyway.

A good idea.... I'm so used to my GPS I forget maps exist! lol So what happens if I just pic a spot on the river and put in and get halfway down and there are some crazy rapids afterwards.

They will definitly be going with me to myrtle this year...

Some of the best relaxation while on the water is down around Murrels inlet. I put in a Sams Corner(Garden City Beach) and paddle the back water. The speed limit for power boats is 10mph (I think) so your not getting beat up by wakes. You can take a Yak places that are amazing in there.

Get a good topo map, it should show rapids and falls. Or just ask your local outfiter whats a good float. But if you float up on something your not sure of, get out and look, if its too tough you will have to portage.

I recommend getting a dry bag for spare clothes and some good waterproof boxes for stuff like cameras, phones and your ID. I tie everything down in the boat when running fast stuff, even the fishing rod.

I bought several dryboxes a while back. I plan to use those...

I assume the outdoor shops would sell a decent topo map.

We go to Murrels inlet to go shopping at the outlet stores ( Ha outlets at the inlet! ) and eat at Drunken Jacks ( I think )...

Yeah its Drunken Jacks, drunkin me has been there a time or 2, good food! If you like a good burger and a cold beer for a good price, go to River City Cafe just down the street.

I'll give em a try this year. We'll be staying somewhere in North Myrtle this year instead of Myrtle. So I'll be eating near there throughout the week. I gotta get some of these suckers by July!

That picture of our Yaks on the sand bar was taken in an inlet just east of Georgetown.
We usually stay in S. Myrtle when we go because we have a friend who lives there.
Theres a cool little kayak shop in Georgetown that will rent kayaks and also give tours.

hmmm My girlfriends aunt is a coastie police officer for georgetown. I'll have to check that out.

Wish I'd have known that when I got a "failure to obey a traffic signal" ticket in Georgetown on Xmas of 05. We where on our way to the put-in, looking for a tiny rd (dot on the map) in an unfamiliar area and I didnt see the light change. Still had a good day on the water though.

My GPS is the best thing that I have ever bought for our relationship! lol

Her and her husband are officers down there. lol My girlfriends family are all mostly police officers, her step father is a paramedic. Most of my family are paramedics, nurses, emts, firefighters.... medical crap. I'm determined to break the chain! Engineer! yeah! A kayakin engineer!

Yep, I grew up in law enforcement, most of my family is or was in either law enforcement or corrections. For that matter, I was a sheriffs deputy of a while many years ago.
I cant stand them now.

Theres no way in hell I'd buy a tandem. She's very independant and I'm going to have my own boat! lol

:roflmao:
Thought I'd throw it out there brother.
I completly relate. When I built mine several people (including my wife) asked me why I didn't go with a tandem. I just looked at them and said why do you think.
It's for "me time". Luckily I only live five minutes from some water.
