This tranny also requires GL-3. Was at the dealer this week and we looked in the FSM and it listed GL-5 but the other info they had said only GL-3. I've got two appart in the shop and they both have brass syncro's like the AX-15. (Which is why we use the GL-3 in the first place on the AX-15.)

So have I killed my '99's AX-5 by putting mobil1 synth 75W-90 into her about 35K miles (3 years) ago? I can't say that I have noticed anything different, except that she shifts better in extreme cold.

I'm not sure about the syn stuff.....

IIRC its the sulfites or something like that in the GL-5 that eats the syncros up. Not sure if the synth has them in it. Seems like I remember something on here about the synth's not eatinng them... But I could have the wrong memory....

IIRC someone one the old forum said that they had killed an AX 15 while running Mobil 1.... On the other hand, there is whole bunch of people who post that they used other oils successfully...... My philosophy though is: $15/qt (dealer GL3 AX15 lube) is a lot less then a tranny rebuild :D

Quite a few Japenese transmissions require GL-3 gear lube. Would make sense the AX-5 and 15 would also since it's a Jap also. Is not necessary to use the high priced stuff. AZ has GL3-5 for $1.99/qt. That is as cheap as it gets and works plenty well in my '98. Had a friend who used Mobile 1 in his Nissan SER trans and required synchro replacements 50k miles later. Is the zinc that seems to be the bad guy in GL-5.

Anyone knows what the T-5 box requires? I plan on rebuilding it (I am not as lucky as Ghost, so I can't afford a EFI 2.5 lt setup) and this time I want to be sure I use the correct lubricant.

Thanks and regards
