JUST FOR BANDIT

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Sams is approx an hour from my place IIRC. I just talked to another guy who went to everettes recently... that guy said that even after C4C everettes XJ selection sucks. Granted he may not go there often and not know exactly where to look (XJs are pretty much in the back corner) but still... Maybe I will call in and ask if they keep a record of what vehicles are in the yard. Either that or maybe I will take a drive up to sams. I will be bringing a sawzall and maybe a circular saw if I man up and buy a metal cutting blade for it. Them things are expensive though.
What size circ saw do you have? I have a pair of 7" metal blades for my chopsaw (one reinforced fiber, one angry looking teeth) - I'll throw em in the junkyard bag too - let me know Friday night or sometime Saturday morning if you're gonna show up.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

alright. will do. Circular saws are measured by size of the blade not size of the shield, right? the shield is 7" across but the blade is 5.5"...

I think its measured on blade so therefore it is a 5.5" circular saw. I thought it was a 7 myself, never really looked at it much.

What time are you thinking of heading to the yard. I planned on getting up *early* and working on the floors, which means if I am going to the junkyard before working on the floors I will be leaving my house by 8AM or so at the latest (if the yard opens at 8AM I will be on the road earlier than that)..gotta look up what time sams opens though

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Last time I think I got there around 9. Waking up at 8 is sleeping in for me now... I feel like an old fart :helpme:

Sams opens at 8, but I know all but one of the guys there now so they usually let me in whenever I show up, usually 7:30 to 8 before work.

Ok, let me know when you plan on going. I will let you know if I plan on being there. Hows the XJ selection at sams?

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

there are usually about a dozen I think. I can usually find what I need, unless it's something everyone needs like a center console latch or a very specific part like fenders in a certain color. PS, the fenders off the white pre-97 Sport at the back of the row are all MINE :p

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

I dont need feneders. I have lawn edging. :D and if my lawn edging rips off (it wont, but IF)I have half my roll of lawn edging left. And the whole roll plus nuts/bolts to attach it cost me less than 35$ Call me cheap, but that looks good enough and functions awesome.

Edit: oooh, I now have a 60" high lift, I can finally get underneath an XJ easily!!!

i hope there is something else holding it up too

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

What do you mean?
hi-lifts are friggin DANGEROUS! i carry one when i'm wheeling, because they can be useful in certain situations. but they are tippy and notorious for falling sideways.

DON'T EVER GET UNDER A VEHICLE THAT IS HELD UP BY A HI-LIFT!!!

if, for some reason, you NEED to lift the jeep with the hi-lift, set jack stands under the axle or frame, then lower the jeep down on the stands. don't trust the hi-lift. always use your OEM jack or a bottle jack as your first choice, and even then you must use jack stands. never trust ANY jack by itself without other support.

Yeah don't be stupid.
Jack stands are cheap.
blocks of wood are cheap.

life .... Not cheap.

what size tires and lift do you have? i can get under my jeep on a creeper the way it sits in my driveway. the only exception is that i can't creep under the diffs.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Oh, yes, sorry.... for some reason when you said "hope there is something else holding it up" I thought you were refering to the lawn edging flares  I didn't read my own post. Yes there will definately be something else holding it up. I know all about hi-lifts.

I am at 3.5" and 33's. I don't need it to get under my rig. I mean to lift a XJ in the JY in order to throw tires under it or something so I can get at gas tank skids, axles, etc easier.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

I've got a 3ton hydro jack I'll be bringing to get under the junkers probably (I keep it in the back of my XJ these days)... unless you feel like bringing the hi-lift because I think it weighs a lot less

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

anyone have a craftsman jack that leaks fluid?

or any one know what fluid to put in the jack?

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Hydraulic Jack Fluid..... duh.... or blinker fluid, that works too :D

(sorry... had to...)

wow. thats amazing I never thought of it...:sure:

well I did power steering fluid... that all drained out.
then tranny fluid and that drained out.
then I did hydraulic oil from the backhoe and that all drained out...

I was kinda looking more for "jack fluid is just like .... "
So that I could stock up on it instead of just grabbing whatever hydraulic non-compressing liquid substance I have on my shelf...

but yeah, I walked right into that... :moon:

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

From what I'm reading, just don't use brake fluid (has alcohols in it that will eat up the seals) and you'll be ok. I'm not sure why everything else is draining out.

I got it as a 'second' from a craftsman store when it was closing.
the only thing I could find wrong about it was that the handle was missing the locking screw to keep the two pieces together, and it wouldn't jack up all the way.
So I added fluid and it worked great!
for a week.
then it drained the fluid that I had put in it back out and doesn't go up all the way.
So I have to add when I want to use it,
then park it on a rag/absorbent mat, until I need it again.

the Brake fluid was a no no is what I heard too.

Plus the hi-lift is easier to carry, less awkward. That's why I dont bring my floor jack, its huge and a PITA to carry anywhere

Funny thing: last night I was getting my tires re-balanced at NTB and walked over to walmart (walmart is next door to the NTB) just to kill time. I was in the auto dept and saw hydraulic jack leak stopper. Never knew that stuff existed (or that walmart carried it) until last night. So there ya go, try some of that stuff out
