Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

to remove the rear DS and drive around? no. it will leak.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

unless you are talking about with the SYE installed, then yes.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

i think you misread one of my posts? when i remove the drive shaft, i am going to take the cone off and put on a flange seal that i bought. once that flange seal is on wont i be fine?

its a hack n tap style.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

oh ok sorry. yeah as long as there is a shaft in there that is bolted in or however your sye works yeah you will be fine. so you're just driving it till you get a driveshaft then?

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

that was a little unclear. with the sye thing installed there will be no leaking, even without a DS (just like the front). but once you drive it with "FWD" you will be anxious to get a rear DS in there ASAP haha

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

i have a front drive shaft out of an auto xj all refurbished. but i dont think i am going to have time to cut the out put shaft, drill and tap it tonight. tomoro is when i can do that.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

so it's all apart now? do you have AIM or ichat or a SN of some type? i feel like i'm missing something here.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

heres what i have for the seal.

is this the correct order of how they go on? my instructions are not clear.

does the seal make it all the way to the smooth part of the shaft? or does it still rest on the splines?
It definitely is not supposed to rest on the splines.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

yes it makes it to the smooth part. i didnt tap it in yet. just wanted to make sure thats ther order it goes on.

once those are on will i be able to drive it without a rear d/s? or do i need to put the yoke too, so that it will not leak?

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

what does it look like with the black ring off?
is it going to leak around that black ring? is there a gasket there?
I had a 96 so i didn't need to worry about that stuff. but it seems like that tail cone eliminator ring should have a gasket or RTV on it, Then the seal you have there should be pressed into the black ring.
after that it should not leak, and you should be able to drive with out the drive shaft or the yoke on it.

but maybe some one that has done it can chime in on this one?

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

muddygp is right. i gotta put the yoke on there to seal it up. so theres no point in driving around front wheel drive cus ill have to drill, tap and put on the yoke anyways, so i might as well throw my new d/s in there too!

im still nervous about cutting this thing...
