Johnson Valley April 11-13.....update

So does anyone have a trail-spare drivers side D30 axle assembly they would be willing to sell at JV?

I looked at my junkyard 260X spare and the u-joint yokes are buggered up (not to be trusted). My week looks too booked to find another.

Richard, I have no way to move the pinnion up as my LCAs are fixed and I'm running(if you can believe it) stock uppers.
I'll try your high-tech way of secureing the front shaft to the UCA. I was just under the thing trying to figure out how I could tie it up and couldn't come up with ahything.

Jes

I was in the same situation at that time, with Tomken upper and lower control arms, or was it RE LCA and stock UCA, I don't remember (I've had about six variations of control arms). I did what you need to do and sprung for some adjustable upper control arms to solve that problem. I didn't go around the control arm with the driveline hanger, but around the mount.....don't remember exactly how since that was a long time ago. I used mechanics wire before I made the little strap setup. Be sure to wrap some tape around the u-joint caps, and DON'T put it into 4wd. :nono:  :D

Ed, I have a set of 297x spares and can bring the drivers side, just in case. I can't use them on my D44, but I just bought a Comanche so now I may end up with a use for them.

I know I've got an outter, and I belive an Inner (260x) drivers side in the garage... Is that what you are looking for? Its still got the hub attached to the outter, but I belive they are both in great condition... I dont have the 36mm socket to get the spindle nut off :(

I'll bring them out with me as well, just in case...

Goatman, you dont want those measly 297x shafts, you want to donate them to the greater good of my jeep... you are getting sleepy, when you wake up, you will feel good about donating jeep parts... >snap<

If the above sentance didnt make you want to give me those shafts, then my "How to hypnotize people for Dummys" book wasnt worth the read.. Damn... :)

Jeff, come on out to the hammers with us. I promise we can get you through without damage:)

Paul - I'd love to come but I've got a family camping trip this weekend.

Body damage doesn't bother me as much after the trashing it got a month ago. Not that I want it, but my undies won't get in a wad over it anymore.

I'm jealous - you guys have fun.

Yah I think he got more damage in one trip there than you have all combined.

One thing about those trails - there are good days and there are not so good days!

This is so ghetto, and I'm embarrased I have to do it but do you think this should work?

Jason, the stub axle and u-joint (with or without hub) and drivers side axle shaft are what I am looking for as a spare (and 260X's are fine for spares).

My 88 knuckles use the early offest hubs, but I can change the hub bearing if needed (I have 36MM sockets from my old VW days).

Does anyone need later knuckles or hubs (I need to get them out of the garage, and can haul them to JV)?

It's like a low tech locking hub conversion........good lookin'.

What you have created there, sir, is a Front Driveshaft Eliminator. When it will be available to the JU crowd? Cost? Will group buys be available? Are there different colors available?

CRASH

Jes, that picture looks very familiar........ :) I think you have it.

Now, while you're driving down the freeway don't think about that driveshaft coming undone and hitting the highway, possibly breaking the t-case and flipping your rig.................................just kidding! ;) :D

Actually I did think of that but the shaft is so short it won't hit the ground if it came loose. :)

Andy, what I got there is a "4WD Eliminator" kit. There will be group buys available and my first run colors will consist of hot pink, tangerine, and rainbow. :D
My "Driveshaft Eliminator" kit will consist of a cheap Taiwan 8mm wrench. ;)

So far the only bad trip for XJ's I have seen there in all my trips was a day on Clawhammer not too long ago. That can be said of any trail though.

Mike - are you driving your Jeep at JV this weekend?

How are you - haven't seen you around lately.

Jeff

I think I might just be able to pay for the gas. Alas though Mikie didn't get me the front locker I needed so I will be either on the moderate runs or riding along as usual.

Good just poor. Got the onboard air compressor on but need to do some other stuff.

How about you ?.

Good - also poor right now. Looks like I'll be keeping the XJ for a while - not in a position to make the move I wanted. Gotta get over to Blaine's and get the WJ conversion done once he's done with the TJ he's building.

Get that front locker!!!

Glad you got your compressor in - Blaine showed me that bracket and it looked pretty cool.

Yah how is that thing going ?.

Let me just say I wish that TJ was going to be mine - it is really turning out cool. Very cool front suspension and steering setup and the rear Antirock is bitchen.

That thing should work great when it's done.
