Jeep pricing, KBB.com

I have been searching hourly, calling daily and visiting all of the XJ's for sale within 65 miles.
Is it common practice to add 1500 to 2000 bucks to the price of a stock XJ?
Example, leaky 95 xj, all stock, 180k, KBB shows around 2k, owner stuck at 3500.
I just need a good stock xj, lol.

A lot of people are a little delusional, or desperate and hoping to get every little dime they can.

Be patient and you will find a deal.. just watch CL and be prepared to jump with cash in hand when you find the one.

It took me just over 6 months to find my XJ. Just be patient and wait for a good deal, then once you buy that one the next Jeep you see for sale will be an even better deal. At least, that is what always seems to happen to me.

All sellers are delusional. I've been searching for a month now, and if something is fairly priced, it's gone already...everything else the seller thinks they're sitting on gold when they're not. XJ's are a dime a dozen back east, and cheap. I almost want to start importing XJ's from the south (no rust) to SoCal for a reasonable price to help out the XJ market here. I can't believe how much most sellers are charging. I'm really sick of searching and dealing with sellers. However, I've gotten quite a few promising leads from here. The dream would be buying from an NAXJA member because they know what they have and what's fair for it (mostly).

Yep. I should post here what I got in an email..........

"Since there is a niche demand for these original Jeep Xj's, it is normal to double the price of the KBB.com pricing. Any running XJ will at least sell for 3000, no matter what the condition. So mine is firm at 3500." 1991-199k miles, no heat or ac, Leaking oil and coolant, tranny shifting hard.

LOL

Took me about 4 - 5 months of camping crazedlist to find mine and I can't even tell you how many times I got beat to the punch on good and even decent deals on XJs; many of them I called within 45 minutes of the posting and still was too late.

When I finally bought mine it involved a 180 mile one way trip to Paso Robles, after I got home from work @ 5 and not getting back home until about 1 in the morning..

i guess mine sucks, it was on CL for probably a month or so for 1600 before i got it lol

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!! thats funny right there!

i paid 750 for mine (needed wheel hub assembly and some body work) my friend mike paid 850 (needed head, fuel pump and tires) and james 650 (needed interior panels and linkage az plates). then i bought my dad one for 300 that needed a fuel pump tires and 600 in reg

for 4 gs you should get one pretty decently built. for 2 gs you should find a good condition stocker 1500 and less is harder to find but if your patient youll find one.

Expand your search, I bought a 2000 XJ 1 owner, 78k miles, lifted, lockers, ARB bumper, winch, lights, roof rack, everything works nice jeep for $3k. I flew to Vegas to pick it up and drove it back no problems.

What about out of state vehicles and smogging here in our beautiful republic of California?
It was equiped with california emissions and it passed no problem. I then went to the DMW, I had to pay a out of state vehcle fee $75-85 "I think", and the california sales tax. No hassle at all

Bringing a vehicle in from out of state is no problem at all. I just get nervous with buying a vehicle sight-unseen. Fly to Vegas and the thing ends up being a POS. What do you do then? Fly home and you spent $200 in airfare for nothing...plus who know what else on hookers and blow:roll:?

There is one I have been eyeballing in Vegas..........

There are members in vegas, arizona, NM, etc. Some ahve tuff for sale. If not, have someone local to the heep your looking at check it out.

4 of my last 5 vehicles have come from out of state. Californian's that have a 4x4 think they have something special and they always jack up the price. My suzuki sx4 is 4x4 and I looked all over cali for one and every time I found one it was 2-3k over blue book. I finally started looking in the Vegas and Phoenix area and found one just under blue book. My TJ, Land Cruiser, Bronco, and my wifes 2nd explorer ALL came from Arizona or Nevada. Arizona actually has a higher car sales tax so when I bought my Suzuki in Phoenix and brought it to the DMV they acutally owed me money since I overpaid in taxes, but then they added the state transfer fee and tag fees in and I immediately handed them back the money plus some more cash. Since I STILL can't afford a built JK I will probably be going back into another FJ80 cruiser in the next couple years and my plan is to soley look out of state. The nice/low miles FJs in SoCal or WAAAAAY overpriced. The same model with same mileage in Phoenix is half the cost. One thing I always do is my homework. I get the vin before I fly in and check the history/car fax. I also have them send me a CRAP load of pics. I also have them fim the engine running so I can somewhat here how it sounds. Most of the time they are willing. If they are not, then I know something is wrong with the car. Two of my last out of state cars were from dealers. They tend to be more willing and reputable. They sent a shuttle to pick me up at the air port. The dealer I bought my Suzuki from even had the driver pick me up lunch before we headed to the dealer. Long story short. Don't be afriad of out of state cars.

it's true that there are a ton of people who think their car is gold in socal, but i have never lost money on a car because i almost always get such a good deal when i buy it. you just have to keep your eyes open and don't be hasty. The jeep was the only thing i felt i somewhat over paid for, and that was 1500. most other cars i get for about half of kbb private party value.
there's always someone out there who has had the car for way too long for comfort and feels like they've gotten their money out of it, and just wants it gone. there are also always people out there who need to sell something ASAP to move across country, financial emergencies, or have another toy that they want to impulse buy and don't care if they lose a little money in the sale as long as they can buy it. those deals disapear fast, but they're out there, you just have to be patient. i've gotten probably over 20 cars and 15 motorcycles that way over the past 10-12 years.

What he said! Once you get your XJ, DO NOT look at what's for sale or you'll just want to drown yourself in a large bottle of ... whatever.

My friend has an app for his phone that alerts him anytime something is posted with the search criteria he put in, Last time he bought an XJ, he had it search for "XJ+Cherokee+jeep+4x4" I think it refreshed the search every 5 mins, all day long. I can't remember the name of the app, but I bet you could find it.

Good luck!

I dont see a single mention of years.... in fact, very few in this thread have posted what year their xj is when they list the price...

VERY important detail...

I cant beleive what im reading in this thread.... sure the market is kinda a sellers market right now, but that double blue book comment is XXXXing retarded.
