Stop.
You already *have* that socket man!
Unless you have the wrong 4.0 Litre emblem on you've got a Renix XJ, that's from before Chrysler deleted the extra marker lamp in the tail lights.
If you look at your current tail lamp boxes you'll see that htey're like this:
O <- Stop / Tail 2057 Bulb
o <- Tail only, dim 97 Bulb
O <- Turn 1156 Bulb
O <- Reverse 1156 Bulb
Plus the small side marker in the side.
The trick here is that the second lamp, the 97 bulb, is behind the reflector field and 97's burn out a
lot faster than 1156's and 2057's so a lot of people don't even realize a light should be there (I never knew it until I was working on my 89's tail lamps. Furthermore later XJ's (possible cutoff year of 1991 but I could be wrong here) do not have that socket (however up to a point will have the hole for the lamp, eventually they filled it in) so a lot of people don't know about it.
You can (and I would) use that socket with the 97 Bulb for a perfect tail lamp in the lower red field.
If you decide to put rear fog lamps in their place you
must get new sockets (just cut out some turn or reverse lamp sockets from a junker XJ) and I would run 1156 bulbs.
See? Yet
another reason that Renix is better than the rest!

Now all i need is two of these...
And figure out which light should go where..
Pretty obvious for the backup and amber light ... but just not 100% sure about the the two reds...
Which one should go on the bottom? The smaller light that needs the new socket?
