Is the Koran a 'holy' book?

You're close-minded if you think this war is just against Al-Q/Taliban...

Would it be better if I added "radical, extreme" in between the words "all" and "Muslim"? Maybe that would add clarity. (http://www.obsessionthemovie.com/)

The point I'm trying to make is that you don't have to be actively fighting to support something....just because they're not actively shooting at you doesn't mean they're not your enemy.

JNickel, I went back to thee thread were you made mention of your coworker wanting to "blow" the pres-elect. It does appear I misinterpreted your meaning so shame on me, even though it was a thread on firearms.

...thats what happens when you assume....just b/c the thread was about firearms, you got all ahead of yourself :D

just because they're not actively shooting at you doesn't mean they're not your enemy.

What about those that are actively helping us?

How about the translator who has to wear a mask while doing his job in order to maybe, just maybe, not have his and his family killed.

Or those who are in our very military doing the same job as the white Christian male?

Guess we should kill them too, right?

You're baiting. Bad moderator.

:D

Its a book like the bible and neither of them mean squat unless you're a
believer What realy pisses me of is the intolerence of other peoples believes. I don't give a crap what you believe in, just don't try to shove
it down my thoat. I have my own believes. O K that my opion.
We did'nt start the fire, its been burning since mankind got big enough to split up and move to a second cave and we aint gonna put it out, anyway not permanetly. Its just the nature of our species to kill each other over any kind of crap that they can use to justify it in their simple
minds.

Spell/Grammar check, good Lord. How much credit do you think people give your little rant if you can not even use basic sentence structure and proper spelling?

hey all, don't normally post but this one seemed like I should interject my $.02. I served in the sand box as one of the few, the proud. It seemed to me that those who craved peace and didn't follow the the whole "great Satan that is America" bs generally either steered clear of us or were friendly or helpful in identifying(sp?) those plotting to do us harm.
In terms of differenciating(again, sp?) between our current conflict and the revolutionary war, we (Americans) were fighting oppression of Brit rule. They attack us because some how the believe us to be evil. Mainly they believe because that's how an ignorant mind became educated and then another etc. The ignorant and impoverished make excellent disciples.
Again, just my $.02. Thanks for tuning in.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That includes their holy book. That is just wrong. It is totally disrespectful to another religion, even if you don't understand their views you should respect them. That is one reason America is thought of negatively abroad.

I guess I'm just too much of a godless heathen to get it.

I just don't understand why people get so worked up about the treatment/mistreatment of inanimate objects. If your supreme being is seriously threatened or offended by the disrepect of a non-believer, I just don't see that the being is especially "supreme."

Wouldn't any god worth worshipping be above these physical trivialities?

I have the same problem with the perpetual warring over the so-called "Holy Land."

Does either side belive that their god is really limited to (or even concentrated in?) a particular plot of land? Never mind your own life, why would any sane person jeopardize their children's lives, for the sake of a piece of dirt that "god" said belongs to you? How long could you revere such a god? And why?

Like I said. I'm just a heathen.

But I'm not killing (or dying) over a piece of land.

I'm not getting all pissed off if somebody shoots a hole in my book.

The whole world is not you. Symbols mean things to people. If it isn't a holy book maybe it's something like the American flag. It's only a piece of cloth, but start a thread on flag burning and see how people feel about that piece of cloth. The point is, we are supposed to be a people where different viewpoints, like religion, are respected.

As for warring over land, we are a territorial species.

Oh, I know the world isn't me. (I can't say for sure if a planet of "me" would be utopia, or about the worst idea ever conceived...)

I know people have beliefs I just don't understand. That's what I said.

Your example of flag burning is a good analogy. And I feel the same way. It's a symbol, no more. (In fact, the irony is hilarious, attacking the symbol of the country that assures you the right to attack that symbol.)

But it is just a symbol. I love my country, I served in defense of that flag. But it is just a symbol. My country is bigger and stronger than a striped piece of cloth. Strong enough to take some yahoo's insults and keep on tickin'.

I would hope that a god; an eternal, omnipotent supreme being; would be bigger than the symbol of a book.

And assuming that he is, I don't see the need to get so dern defensive about it.

Robert

(Edit: None of the above is meant as a defense of the aforementioned yahoo. I'm just questioning his power to attack god.)

It's got nothing to do with god or the strength of the country. It has to do with how people feel about those symbols and how they react when those symbols are desecrated. Yes, we have the right to say pretty much whatever we want, that doesn't free us from the reactions which our words or actions elicit. (Remember the Dixie Chicks?) As Americans, we are supposed to respect the right of others to believe in god as they choose. That respect should be extended to their religious objects as well.

Like I said, I'm not defending the yahoo who thinks its cool to attack another religion's symbol.

I try to be respectful to others, and I think most people do, too.

But there are always some people who aren't. It would be fine if they just didn't exist, but they do. Always have, always will.

Here's my point: The people that are intentionally offensive only act that way because they know it will get a rise out of people.

I'm trying to understand why people give the agitators the reaction they seek. The dufus can't attack your god, your country, even your person directly. He can only attack your symbols.

If not for the outrage you give him, he's just an idiot shooting holes in a book. And I don't see the need for that outrage, if the guy is only trying to insult a small symbol of a much greater thing.

I think god can take it, without us getting all worked up in his defense.
