is it legal?

Here in Utah, if it came from the factory with doors, it has to have them unless they were designed to be removed.

Custom half doors dont count for XJs, OEM doors only.

If you make half doors, or tube doors and put mirrors on it, they more than likely wont bother you. If ya do get pulled over though, just dont show attitude.

Even more so if you get pulled over around the Moab area come July.

You can drive with your doors off, but you must still have mirrors to be legal. Keep in mind that you won't pass inspection with them off, you'll have to put them on to pass. All original equipment must be in place to pass inspection. Otherwise, you have to have kit car or specially constructed vehicle status, both of which will ramp up your ICBC rates. I've seen a few cherokees doorless here on the island. Don't know about Vancouver; they tend to be a lot less lenient on the mainland. A smart cop will write you up for driving an incomplete vehicle, but most will only go after you if you are missing the driver's side mirror. I've never heard of anyone actually being pulled over for it though, just getting tickets after they've been pulled over for something else.

Jeep on...

Edit: PM me if you want the regulations, I have a copy I can email to you.

anyone have any tips on the best way to make your xj doors removable?

Yes. Use the search feature.

First one's free: doorless.

Typically, mirrors and seatbelts are covered (down here) under FMVSS - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Doors are not - which is why there is a jurisdictional variation. Check your vehicle code, subsection "Safety Equipment" or "Body Modifications," I'd think.

For those of you who don't know where to find your Vehicle Code, Google it, or check your State's website. There should be a link. You might also want to check your motor vehicle governing body (Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, or whatever. Whoever you write your registration cheque to every year.)

Your not in TX, but I asked the head DPS Trooper here and he told me that doors aren't required as long as you have at least one mirror, and your seatbelt on!
