Iron Rock Off Road?

I cant say enough good things about iron rock. I have their double sheer track bar kit, and steering system. When I was out in moab I broke part of the steering system and they overnighted a new part fast and cheep. they are a good bunch of guys.

Coastie is correct. Unless the XJ you are installing the front DS in (as a rear DS) is a manual, in which case you want a V8 auto ZJ front driveshaft. If you have a lot of lift and a manual you may want an I6 ZJ front driveshaft as it is slightly over 2" longer, but I'm not sure - check that info yourself.

Lengths for ZJ front driveshafts, from Dana-Spicer catalog (if anyone has a copy of the Dana-Spicer rear driveshaft catalog, I would be much obliged! I only have the front DS catalog):

96 w/ 4.0 or 2.5, Manual & 231 TC: 28.02"
92.5-95 w/ 4.0 Manual & 231 TC: 28.02"
96.5-97 w/ 2.5 Manual & 231 TC: 29.02"
96-98 w/ 5.2/5.9 Auto & 249 TC: 29.6"
93-95.5 w/ 4.0 Auto & 231 or 242 or 249 TC: 30.53"
92.5-93 w/ 4.0 AW4 & 231/242/249 TC: 30.53"
96.5-97 w/ 4.0 Auto & 249 TC: 31.53"
97-98 w/ 4.0 Auto & 242 TC: 31.75"
96 w/ 4.0 Manual & 242 TC: 31.77"
93-95.5 w/ 5.2 Auto & 231 or 249 TC: 32.87"

These are ordered from shortest to longest for convenience... if you can fill in these blanks with measurements from junkers or something, maybe we should make a FAQ or sticky about it or something with all the ZJ front driveshaft lengths in one place:

96.5-97 w/ 5.2 Auto & 249 TC: ???
95.5-96 w/ 4.0 Auto & 249 TC: ???
96 w/ 5.2 Auto & 249 TC: ???
95.5-96 w/ 4.0 Auto & 249 TC: ???
95.5 w/ 5.2 Auto & 249 TC: ???

So these are for the Zj driveshafts what about Xj driveshafts?

Junglejuice - I'll post those up tomorrow if I remember. As I recall most of them are a few inches shorter, on the 28-30 inch range but I'm not sure.

The comments above are somewhat conflicting with the information that I got from Iron Rock themselves. I ordered the yoke and driveshaft on Friday to install in my recently lifted '98 w/ AX-15, 231, and Dana 35. They didn't offer any driveshaft options, told me that the driveshaft that came with the "kit" would work fine with my AX-15... didn't matter whether I had the manual or the auto tranny. Never asked what rear-end I was running.

Everything should be here tomorrow. I'll have to make sure the shaft is long enough before I got and cut the output shaft on the T-Case.

Does anyone have any first hand experience as to why it doesn't work with the Dana 35? How much shorter/longer is the driveshaft with a manual vs. auto tranny?

Thanks.

http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoSYEconversion.htm im pretty sure that there yoke is the yoke in the link just cut down. Probably cheaper to just get that yoke and cut it down yourself locally.

If you can explain to me how I can make the yoke I need from a standard yoke when the standard yoke has no bolt holes would be interesting.
Gojeep used a yoke imported from Tom Woods, not a standard yoke...
