LOTS of money in that field. Got a buddy that welds on pipeline.
I told the welding teacher that was at my high school when I went there that I wished I would have taken his class. Same with auto shop (at least basic auto classes).
I heard that smoking was pretty common in that room, on another hand that teacher did get arrested for Meth charges down the road though. Looking back, it would have been neat to at least learn the basics of welding.
Wish I had a media blaster, sure would make cleaning axles easier then wire wheel/DAs dusty a$$ mess in my shop.
Nothing makes a mess like a media blaster. And it gets in everything.
Two of my best friends are pipe fitters, they've consistently made $120-200k, and are talking about retiring soon. They have worked in some incredibly crappy situations, nuke plants, coal power plants, Chicago rooftops in sub-zero weather, and places that smell so bad that you need to throw away the clothes you wear, but the money can make all that worthwhile...
that i can tell the class is set up for pipeline stuff. as a matter of fact, the teacher was just mentioning last night that a pipe fitter manager he knows was just telling him that they are in desperate need for young people. they have guys retiring every week and will soon be screwed.
