The dry rot scared me more than tread depth...

I went to Applebee's for lunch, I can't stand to watch them work on it.

I forgot you told me those were date coded to like 1996 or something.

I'm surprised they even touched it.

I figured I'd get crap for the 8 year old 19.5s I had put on the uhaul.

I just ordered another set of TreadWright's for the front of the Dodge. I had put a set of their mud treads on the duals last year and they are wearing great, the fronts were virgin rubber Wanli brand and they have cupped out and they just sucked in general. I will try these retreads on front and see how bad they are. 19.5's suck when it comes to availability or options in this part of the world. Getting some HoBalls to put in them as well. They are also having a sale with 10% off, so that helped to offset the shipping of those heavy bastards a little bit.

In other news, I lost a rod bearing in my planter tractor, so that is @ $10K in the ass. That motor only had under 400 hours on a comlpete rebuild, and the dickface wont stand behind it. New reputable builder doing it and documenting it this time. Nothing like giving the profit from that particular farm away in repairs before the crop is even up.....

Of course this happed 72 hours after we bought a camper too...perfect timing. Luckily the camper is an oldie instead of a mobile club R, but it will suffice to see if we will use it at all and if so, we will upgrade in teh future. It has a newer oversized AC, a bed and a fridge, I did not look at anything beyond that

One of the treadwrights I just bought for the Chevy won't balance at all, two different shops have tried. I have submitted a warranty claim, they are supposed to send me a new tire. The other 3 balanced fine and they all run smooth at any speed other than 45-50. Of course they send me a 10% coupon 2 weeks after I order 4 tires

How bad is shipping from treadwright? I've been thinking about buying from them but the idea of lots of money towards shipping is kinda offputting.

~$25 a tire for a 265/75/16 from TX to IN. It isn't any cheaper shipping to a business either, I tried that. Ended up being $540 for a set of 4 shipped to me.

No must have been a different conversation, these were 08 tires that were dry rotted.

I got four brand new cooper discoverers HT 225/75/16 E tires with lifetime balance, replacement, repair all the extras and tax for $670 out the door. Plus 500 discount tire stores across the nation... Doesn't make tread rights seems like much better of a deal.

I took a tire in there to get patched and they checked the date code and sent me on my way. It was 10 years old but not dry rotted or anything. I learned to take stuff like that to the hole in the wall shops.

Otherwise for new tires Discount gets all of my business.

Re: Re: Important

Well. I had my mind set on an iro kit but i guess I will rethink that...
I have also noticed on Dans jeep that there is interference between the iro front truss and longarms (that uca bracket). Might just be his jeep though.

Yep, I like have 5/8" bolts in my upper link.

I have stayed fairly quiet on here about IRO because I know you guys like them and wheel with them... but yes. That is a serious design flaw, many people have been ragging on them for years about it (including me, until I got tired of telling people things they didn't want to hear.) Altrocker, yours is not the first failure of this kind, nor will it be the last. One of the NAC guys had the same exact problem (except he caught it right before it blew up) and they accused him of abusing the product and refused to honor the warranty on that part, as I recall.

I have not and will not run IRO suspension for this reason. You can be the nicest guy in the world and wheel with me for years, but if your suspension has what I consider a fatal design flaw in it, I am not going to run it on my jeep even if it is free. Sorry.

I just bought my second set of Treadwrights, 235/75R15 Crawler MT(P)s. Set of 4 from TX to MA for $480 shipped.

I have done some... err... "extended testing" and my crapcan XJ can do 0.9-1G turns on them. 52-53mph through a 180ft radius non-cambered freeway entrance ramp

(I don't need no stinkin' pink BMW!)

IIRC my shipping came to approx 120 bucks for 4. You are gonna pay shipping on tires no matter who you buy em from, just depends on whether it's rolled into the retail price or not.

ok.

We were talking about the spare I put on the LJ. A general grabber MT made in 1992.

I had to have that mounted somewhere else.

Checked my air bags getting ready for Redbird this weekend and the pass side mount slipped and the bag is moved partially around the axle, wouldn't hold air...ugh. Don't have time to deal with it today, will be tomorrow before we leave...

1/2" upper is plenty, this is what I ran on tj and beat it pretty good. You can get a bushing from currie that is a jj style and replaces the bushing in the axle punkin for a three link (I have one brand new if someone needs one).

That being said I did build me new three link on pass side using 5/8 bolts.

The key is no binding. 1/2 bolt is totally fine.

Yep, I agree. Usually a true upper links only job is to keep the axle from rotating, so a huge bolt isn't necessary, but with radius arms there is binding. I think the prob with the IRO kit, is that the upper is sharing the work load of the lower link because it is welded to it. So you really need a larger bolt to handle the stress.
