Important

That is around what WF12 cost me in fuel, 2k miles at 8-9mpg. The 318/46re were not amused by 4000lbs of jeep + ~800lbs of crap and tow dolly.

Didn't the trans crap out right after that and you scrapped it? I mean, it's a Chrysler trans, it was probably going to give out soon anyway. I'm amused that both Chrysler's transmission plant and Allison are in Indiana, I guess we have both ends of the spectrum here.

On a related note, I get to try a band adjustment on my 42RE here soon. Not counting on that to improve anything, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah that pile of shit tranny was doomed. My parents had it rebuilt 3 times while they owned it, the last rebuild cost them 2500 and involved a new torque converter and some seals, I think they got screwed on that. They parked it for 3 years nad when I resurrected it (maybe 15k after they had it rebuilt), it was already whining badly from the bellhousing. I drove it for the first time in 3 yeas the weekend before WF, was told it had a 5.9 not a 5.2 (my dad didn't read the sticker under the hood I guess... LOL) then towed with it because I really only wanted the 5.9 out of it originally, so who cares if the tranny blows up? I had tow coverage on it!

A few hundred miles after I got back from WF it started overheating, slipping a lot in a few gears, lurching into gears, not remembering how to upshift, and throwing codes concerning governor pressure. Fluid was horrible and burnt. I toyed with the idea of rebuilding it myself or swapping it to a 5 speed, realized it wasn't a 5.9, then this January I realized that I was really broke, really needed money, didn't need the van, it was dented, rusty, etc so I sold it to a scrapper for 500 bucks. I figure I can always pick up another dodge van in much better shape with a blown trans for 500 bucks in the future if I want to do that.

That van and the chrysler minivans my parents owned while I was a kid are 100% to blame for my hatred of chrysler automatics.

Haha I'll make them bring the XJ back!

I spotted a yellow JK pickup on campus. I walked up to them and asked them if they wanted to go wheel Rocks & Valleys. Talked for a while, gave them a resume, and now I'm waiting for a phone call back with a time for tomorrow after I submitted all the required online crapola. The position is a 10 week internship with Mopar Engineering with a possibility of going full time after that is completed.

Really hope it works out. This is just what I wanted.

Kick bmyohn(Brendan) in the ass while you're there....

Ford made two styles of V8s with plug issues, the ones that never let the sparkplugs out and the ones that automatically eject them while you're driving. I think they also made some that don't have problems :gee:

The earlier 5.4s are the ejectors(02 and down).. the second gen ones are the sexy spot welded spark plugs that snap off in the head...

Made it home from Moab this afternoon. Somewhere around Omaha my power brakes in the van quit working. Still had brakes, just no power assist. Wasn't too bad until I got to the Chicago area, where anytime you leave a safe following distance in front of you, some moron will jump into it, if it gets them a car length farther than the lane they were in...

If I had a quarter for every time that happenes, tolls would be free.

The half a dozen times a year, I might use the ability of the diesel is far outweighed by the other 360 days a year that the higher costs of said diesel.

This.

I'm going to look at a '00 Silverado OBS CCSB with a SBC this weekend. For the 10-15 times I tow a year I can't justify a payment on a diesel or the daily fuel in a big block.
