I may be mistaken here but aren't the Triton 5.4's the ones that have the problems with the spark plugs always breaking on them? Thought I heard somewhere that the plugs get seized and end up breaking when you try to remove them. Atleast that's what happened to my buddies 5.4 he had.

I think that happened to Austin already.

There were a few problematic years for the spark plugs. So much that ford made a repair kit for it. Happens on the older v10s also. I had a 2000 f150 with the 5.4 and it never happened to mine. I wouldn't be as worried about that as just the fact the the motor is underpowered to haul two rigs. My 5.4 did vail pass at 35 mph with one rig...my 6.4 diesel did vail pass with two rigs at 35 mph...

My jeep did it at 40 and it was at like 4k! Thank god the AW4 is stout.

I just didn't know what years were the ones that had the problems. If i was gonna be hauling 2 rigs it would be a diesel of some kind. I think you would have the power with the V10 but the gas mileage would kill ya on a long trip towing 2 rigs.

Diesel would be my choice no doubt but the v10 trucks are a bargain. I'd say get a 7.3 and be done with it.

If you don't tow two all the time, it may not be worth the extra expense of owning a diesel. If fuel mileage sucks a couple times a year but its cheaper to own and maintain, a big block v8 or v10 might be a better option.

There are lots of guys towing two rigs with an 8.1 chevy or a ford v10.

Heck, we saw a 1-ton dually dodge towing a three place wedge with three on it coming back from moab...said 5.7 hemi on the side...so if that was true...i guess anything is possible...doesn't mean you should try it.

On another note, I think I have the wife finally talked into a true RV...

there are no bargain 7.3s...

heck they want more for the 6.0s now than i paid for my 6.4...

My neighbor has a 20-25' pontoon, had an F150 to tow it with. He traded the f150 in on a RAV4. I asked him what he was going to tow the boat with......wait for it......The RAV4. I walked away.

Do not tow with an underpowered or too small a rig, you or someone else will pay the price.

Ford made two styles of V8s with plug issues, the ones that never let the sparkplugs out and the ones that automatically eject them while you're driving. I think they also made some that don't have problems :gee:

I see your point on this mac. Guess i was just basing it off of if someone was driving their truck all the time and using it to pull trailers quite often the diesel in the long run would be the smart choice.

They are reasonable around here....unlike a Cummins. My dad's 06 still books for 26k. IIRC Austin paid the same for his f150 as brad sold his gold 7.3 psd for.

I sold my 06 megacab in 2010 right after winterfest. It had 100k on it and I let it go for 22k. I see the same truck with almost double the miles being offer for more than what I sold mine for.

We aren't racing as much, or maybe not at all right now. I'll never have the ultra4 buggy that should be in my trailer. We want to do more camping. It's hard to get my trailer into a normal campground, and additional living space would be nice. I want a real bedroom to sleep in and a bigger bathroom.

My choice would be the biggest motor in the shortest RV with a rear bedroom that I can find...and be able to tow my single place trailer with the Jeep weighing about 7k lbs.

I have some equity in my truck and trailer. Would like to pay off our credit cards and not have much or any of a payment on whatever RV we buy.

Okay, there's some confusion/mis-communication in regards to how I posted that statement.

As I've stated I have a deal to sell a s10 and buy a gasser f250 and come out clean. The f250 will share dd responsibilities with the XJ since that's what I've been doing with the F150/XJ anyways. Bec will end up driving the F150 as a DD as it gets the same gas mileage as the S10 currently does. I will eventually sell the F250 to get something in the diesel flavor that will be able to pull a 2-space 5th wheel. As an F250 is more valuable in my neck of the woods than the S10 is...

**EDIT** Where one jeep goes, the other will too, or the wife will kill me...

When I took Big 'Nuff to WF in 2012 and towed the XJ, it was tough sometimes. Granted, the weather took a lot of strength out of the V10, but it wouldn't stay in OD until I got out of Chicago and was going with the wind. IIRC, I was getting about 6mpg at the worst and probably around 9-10 at the best.

It was slow, a bit underpowered and expensive, but the convenience of driving your "tent" to Attica was awesome.

Like I told Molly, it's not donut proof.... Just donut resistant :D

What do we do before we use our cages in the field?

We... we test it? :D

Thanks for reminding me :moon: I got 10k for it, which didn't seem too bad at the time but I can barely find one for that price now.

I had my F250, my F350, and my Duramax all with the intent of pulling two rigs at some point. Then the big trailer is expensive, and lots of trailers are under-maintained, plus you still have to keep a single place trailer around. I feel like my diesel trucks always needed work done to them. Same with the Suburban but the parts are a lot cheaper!

Don't know what kind of rv your looking for or how new you want one to be, but Suzi's dad has an rv he has been trying to sell. Its a decent sized one with a rear bedroom in it. Don't know what motor is in it but could check.

I'm not sure yet what I want or what I can afford.

PM me the details when you know them, its worth considering.

I have found that I always sell my stuff for a price that I could never buy it for, yet the seller always makes it seem like I'm over charging...
