Ok quick question for those of you who have replaced their rockers with box tubing? What is the best recommended size of steel to use for it. Should i go with 2x4, 2x5, or 2x6? It will be 3/16' thick. We will be getting some to redo the rockers in suzi's jeep but trying to figure out what would be best. Also does anybody have an idea on how long each side should be? They only sell them in 10ft lengths and was hoping i didn't have to buy two sticks.

2x6 and 2x2 fits great up under the door section to spread out the load. I think they are right at 65" can't remember exactly.

Band adjustments are super easy. Just remember INCH pounds! Do yourself a favor and add a drain plug to that pan too.

I found some specs from a trans shop, 72-inch pounds, back off 3 turns on the front band and 3.5 on the rear if it's wrapped, or 2 turns if it's solid. It's hesitant to do the 1-2 shift unless you give it the onions (which seems to increase the line pressure enough for it to shift) or drop out of the throttle completely. And then it hunts between 2 and 3 around 30mph. So, worth a shot, worst case I'll be calling a parts yard and taking a chance on a used one.

Vac pump?

Glad you made it home safe.

It's a 6.0 PSD, I think it's hydroboost unless the vans are different?

Ok thanks all. Im thinking i can get a 60" piece on each side to work out. That will save us from buying another stick of 2x6 and have 2-4ft pieces of it lying around.

Fired up the wood stove last night, something about this-

and the weather guy saying the S word told me to do it.

If you do end up buying 10 footers, 2x6 makes decent transmission crossmembers.

Replace the gov sensor and regulator while in there. They are known to cause that issue too. Sounds like your front band is loose maybe too. The rear band does 1 and R and the front does 2-3 if I remember right.

To all the CIM Operators out there:

We have a Haas CNC Mill in our Metals/welding shop. Our machine is just 3-axis and has a 10-tool holder. Does anyone have some G-code programs that we could use to show our students how it works? Me and the metals instructor have spent about 2 months getting the thing operational (last guy didn't use it at all and it sat ~3 years). We're just looking for a program that might have 2-4+ tool changes to make something, anything... Our G-coding skills are not the greatest and we'd like to just have something to demo for the students while we self-teach ourselves...

You will need two sticks... I bought 16 ft and had 6 inches leftover.

We used 2x8... It has saved the doors countless times.... So many times I'm overdue for a good sand and repaint.

Build thread is in adfab.... Project girly jeep

Im still on vacation.

I still have like 3 weeks saved up but I'm Saving that for WF, a silver lake trip, and Harlan.

Speaking of silver lake, when does it get warm enough to swim in?

I used 2x6 and It fit perfectly Imo, However before I added outer tube steps I did get into my rear door a bit one time.

Now that it has outer tubes and used them a few times on the moab trip i feel pretty safe, so 2x8 would be good for extra protection If you dont do a tube step.

Forgot how long but IIrc I cut 2 6ft sections for starters.. (measure first)
I ended up Needing 2 sticks.

I love my 2x6. It's pretty obvious they are there when you get in the jeep though. Be ready to get clothes dirty when the rails are dirty. My factory ZJ wheels on the 98 Cherokee have the prefect backspace to create a straight line down the side of the jeep, all inline with the tires. I didn't want there to be any chance of the rocker digging into a hillside because of them sticking out too far. Also if you like playing on the rocks.... Think about all the times you have been really really close to rubbing but didn't. With 2x8 you will be dragging. (I'm talking about the jeep leaned over or in a bit of a bind) All this considered... If i was going larger than my little 32's with near stock backspacing..... I would consider 2x8 and getting the rail a little farther out.

A guy comes by yesterday to check out these wheels I had on CL. Looks at the, likes them, buys them. All is good.
We are chatting a little bit and he sees the unicorn(red 2dr) sitting in the garage.
asked me if i was parting it out, I told him no, I was selling it as is. He seemed interested, so I told him all the details. He decided to buy it and pulled a roll of hundreds out of his pocket.

I felt like I was on fast-n-loud or American pickers or something. Guy sees a jeep in a old dark garage, likes it, pulls out cash.

He is picking it up with a trailer Sunday.

6 months ago I had 4 XJ's. My wife was very unhappy with this. now I am down to 1, she is happy.

Also this will be the 1st time I will only have 2 cars (her car and the silver XJ) since i bought a 76 Monte Carlo 9 years ago. I have had at least 3 cars in the driveway since then, and one point I had 6. She is also very happy about that.

hmmmmmmm....maybe I should look at trucks or trailers or something. Cant let the wife get to use to this.

Nope, he also did not offer me half of my asking price either. I gave him a number, and he pulled out the cash.

SAM'probably could have got more, he was drooling'SET
