Probably an e-clip, goofy plastic bushing clip like clutch master pushrods use, or a cotter pin or something. What year is it again? I'll poke around and see if I can find anything.
The Ftwofiddy is driving me nuts! Sometimes the steering is so bad I am afraid to drive it. It wanders all over the road. Sometimes it feels as if there is a "catch". I will correct an over steer and I will feel it in the steering wheel as it centers and it will over correct. Then it will ho away and be fine but still wanders a bit. I changed the tie rod and drag link and unfortunately the problem did not go away.
Could it be the axle joints? If one or both of them are in just the right position I would think such a condition could exist. The man lock outs have been engauged for at least 60, 000 moles so I can not unlock them to check.
I could also be ball joints.
It wouldn't hurt to rebuild the whole front end.
There is also a steering gear box adjustment I have read about.
Any thoughts?
check the ujoints in the intermediate steering shaft. I have had them go bad 2-3 times in my MJ and every time it acts just like that. The Ftwofiddy is driving me nuts! Alright, looking at the parts catalog diagram, it looks like redheep is probably right.
I use 4wheel drive almost every day so I never thought about unlocking the hubs until this started.
I will but a big pair of channel locks on them and see what happens.
Come or bleed bitch.
The whole front end needs to be rebuilt anyway.
